New Porsche 997.2 Turbo S Project Car - Full Build Thread
Not true in regards to the Turbo S, which is what we are discussing.

When ‘Sport’ mode is selected,
the engine management system
creates a much more aggressive
response to pedal inputs. To do
this, it implements an alternative
throttle map which relates the
pedal position in the footwell to
a wider angle of opening in the
throttle body. In higher gears, it
uses a hard rev-limiter to protect
the engine under power.
In the 911 Turbo models, under
full acceleration, the maximum
boost pressure in the lower and
medium speed ranges is now
temporarily increased by approximately
0.2 bar. As a result,
engine torque is boosted by 50 Nm
to a maximum of 700 Nm for a
limited period. (The 911 Turbo S
models are configured to operate
with a higher boost pressure level,
which means that their maximum
torque is always 700 Nm.)

Yes that is true, the electronic throttle is more sensitive. You also get .2bar of extra boost in sport mode. That is all true. However, running the car in Sport Mode back to back to back hard pulls will yield decreasing results.
I am not questioning the back to back runs and pulled timing because of heat soaked components,,,, however on the Turbo S, in stock form, boost is NOT increased via use of the sport button. (It is in the Turbo model)
Put another way, if you enable the sport mode in a 997 Turbo S model will the boost be increased by .2 bar as it is in the 997 turbo model?
NO- it will not. (According to Porsche, as I have shown above.)
Please post the chart of your dynos that show boost pressure displayed with the sport button on and off to prove your position and contradicts what Porsche states on the subject.
Thanks,
Walt

Sport Mode on the Turbo S with ECU Flash runs at about 18-19psi. Standard mode with the ECU Flash runs at about 15-16psi. This will be dependent of the exhaust system you have because of the backpressure caused by stock.

So the Softronic ECU flash is biased to add more boost with the sport mode on?
Again, can you post the dynos showing boost on and off? I would like to see them.
That would validate the boost numbers you are stating, sport mode on and off.
Thanks, I appreciate it!

Here are dynos from when we did the 2010 Turbo and my 2011 Turbo S. These will not show boost numbers, but you can see the notes the run of Sport and Standard. Maybe your Sportec flash is different. Either way...

Ok, thanks, that's a little helpful. So I take it you do not have boost recorded in any of your runs?
Where did you get the boost numbers you stated previously?
I'm really interested in the boost aspect of the tune.

On those dynos boost was not recorded. The boost numbers are from owning and driving the cars as well as flashing many cars and dyno tests.
