MJA, thanks very helpful post as I just had to do this on my 997. Service now light was driving me crazy - it doesn't take much

I've had my car 18mo and 6k miles and no service light. I don't think anything is wrong (I hope) but when does the light usually go on? Thx

Right at 2 years since my major service is when mine came on.

So if I want a device to tell me whats wrong with my car every time (God forbid) something goes wrong, is Durametric the best choice? and which kind? I quickly glanced at their website and it seems they have couple of packages to offer.

I find the Durametric to be very useful - I'm not aware of another option like it for our cars other than the very expensive factory PIWIS system. There are 2 versions of the Durametric available - the Enthusiast Version & the Pro Version. The main difference(s) between the 2 is that the Enthusiast version is limited to use on 3 VIN #s and it does not allow for Coding. Coding is the ability to write changes into the car's modules for different options and functions (i.e. disabling active aero on the rear spoiler if you install a fixed wing GT2/GT3 type, allowing the key to open / close the windows during the lock/unlock process, making the side marker light blink with the front blinker / tun signal, etc). With the enthusiast version you can see what the car is doing and clear error & service codes, but can't write to the modules. Although the Enthusiast version is limited to 3 VINs, I believe you can call Durametric and have them delete a VIN that is no longer being used, like if you sell one P-car and purchase a different one, you have multiple P-cars or friends / neighbors who you share your cable with.

Hope that helps.

Hi

Hoping someone may be able to assist. I've got V6 of durametric software and after a little messing around with drivers and the like, it seemed to be talking to the ECUs & searching for codes etc. However, when I go to tool info tab, it says that a cable isn't connected (it appears to be and is visible in device manager). What I really wanted to do was clear the service light, but when i go to any of the expanded areas on the software, there is no further functionality,

Does anyone have any suggestions at all please? Many thanks
