997 TTS exhaust EP or Sharkwerks

I know, not another exhaust question, but, I need some expertise. Getting a new TTS (end of march build) and I want a more audible exhaust note. It seems the consensus here is that Europipe is one of the preferred exhausts. The Sharkwerks pipe for $1600 or so sounds good also, at least through my computer speaker system. I'm just looking for sound not really performance, although that would be a plus also. Is it worth an extra $2500 or so for the europipe system?

I'd say honestly it depends on what you want. If you want to change out for a full exhaust with high flow cats and for max performance then you'd probably want the Europipe. Our system is certainly more for sound (folks seem to enjoy it). There's still a performance gain but the backpressure will be reduced more with freer flowing cats. We have to use ours in California in order to stay compliant and legal here and hence retain the factory cats. You can also upgrade just the cats and keep the stock muffler as some companies offer that too.

I'd say it depends where you are at and also on what your local service advisor says regarding such changes and warranty.

You might also have some CEL issues and torque loss if you go too far on the backpressure reduction.

arash, I don't want any torque loss! Do you have an exhaust of some sort on your car? Also Sharkster...I'm checking with my dealer in Illinois in regards to any warranty issues. None with yours I assume? Thanks

No, my car is still bone stock. I'll probably tap Sharkwerks in a few months when I get tired of the vacuumcleaner+sewingmachine sound of my TTS... ; )

Kudos to Sharkster for the straightforward answer. And rep points too.
rbservice read that answer carefully, this is valuable info. It boils down to what you want. None of the discussed systems will have CEL's or too little backpressure, so no need to be freaking out about it.

Honestly, I really wanted the Europipe for my 997.2TT but I was afraid it may not be loud enough. No one in my area had one for me to audition first. If they made a stage 2 I would have pulled the trigger as I'm sure it would make more noise. I wish I had another 997TT that way I could buy from Stef solely because he's such a nice guy. Vendor's like Europipe are diamonds in the rough.

With that said I went with Sharkwerks exhaust which screams. The price was significantly cheaper but of course their system does not include new cats. I am getting a set of 200 cell cat's made so I can hear the turbo's more. I do believe the Shark Werks pipe will be much louder once I get the 200 cell cats installed. I also want to mention that Dan, Alex, and James were a pleasure to work with. They answered all my questions promptly and took care of me. They even said I can send the exhaust back for a full refund if it didn't suit me.

There really is no best exhaust. It's really a matter of what you want and what you want to pay for it. Both systems are are awesome from great vendors that stand behind their product and customer.

Here's quick vid I took of the exhaust. It's off my blackberry camera. The video and sound quality sucks. The exhaust is much louder in real life. I will post a better video once I get my 200 cell cats.

Thank you for the nice words Chris, much appreciated.

Our 997.2 TT exhaust is actually louder at WOT compared to the 997.1 TT stage 2 or any of our other systems.
It is also quieter at cruising speed so you get the best of both worlds.

Seems like you are really focused on the noise level while the emphasis with our system is on tone quality.
We have been building Porsche sport exhausts for over 24 years now and this Turbo exhaust is our best sounding one so far.
That's why our customers come up with comments like:

a great symphony of roaring melody

you hear all aspects of the flat six without it just being loud

anything can be loud, but this exhaust appeases the tonal qualities of your ears

Our 100 cell sport cats contribute to the overall sound level but the muffler cans create the specific tone.
These 100 cell sport cats cost me a fortune and building the exhaust takes me almost one week so I feel that the price is actually a bargain compaired to some of the other systems.

Cheers

Stef, For me, I want both tone and increased volume, but not to the point of being overwhelming. Like your other comment, I want to here that symphony too! An exhaust worthy of the car.

For sure let us know. Because we're not changing cats and just doing a "muffler" change post oxygen sensors and emissions equipment we've actually had a really good response from dealerships. They've been buying/installing it happily. There's no resonance to worry about either and plus they seem to dig the sound

Thanks for the video and for flying with us. So glad you like it! We'll need to make more videos as a couple of cars are running on Tubi cats with our exhaust too and it's a notch higher in terms of sound. No Easy Listening Classics or Lionel Ritchie that's for sure!

After a lot of research I installed the EP exhaust last year. The dealer in Highland Park IL told me that there would be no warrantee issues.

I can attest to what Stef posted- the TONE of the exhaust is different at partial throttle-not too much louder, but more guttural, not whistle like the stock system. But get on the throttle and it ROARS. You can hear the turbos and there is a definite increase in throttle response due to quicker tubo spool up.

Don't let price drive your decision. Unless you DIY ( which isn't too hard with the EP), you'll probably spend over $1k for installation of any system. Ultimately you'll want no regrets.

I'm sure that Sharkwerks makes a fine product, as they have a reputation for being a first class outfit. I only have had hands on experience with the EP, which is unbelievably well made. The workmanship and quality is beyond anything that I had seen before.

If you'd like to hear my EP, let me know. I live just north of the IL state line.

Good luck with your decision!

I talked to my dealer and he said that everything in the exhaust system would be excluded from the warranty if I changed anything. I told him to check with the Porsche rep. for further info because others on this site have said otherwise. He's going to get back to me. Also Airmitch, I might take you up on hearing yours. It sounds like you would also be able to offer insight if I decided to try the install myself. Although it sounds a little daunting?
