Just bought a 2012 Turbo S and I owned a 01 turbo with a few mods...night and day. The new turbo S is just too incredible. The power aside, the car has everything one would want in a daily driver...and nearly the speed of a bugatti veyron! Whats better???

Of course you would say that, you are biased! .

Nearly the speed of Veyron? KHM!

0-300km/h

Turbo S = 34 seconds.

Veyron in 18.

According to several car mags, it is when it comes to 0 to 60. I believe they have the S at 2.6 and the V at 2.4.

0-60? Meaningless performance data. I think by now we all agree about that. And after 60? Veyrons afterburners ignite... and toast the s. Comparing 997 ts to veyron acceleration wise is ridiculous.

997 TT S runs a 10.7 1/4 mi at 129 mph. Not veyron fast.. But really fast. My old 996TT with chip and exhaust would do a 11.8 1/4 according to posted times of similar prepared cars. What hp 996 TT would it take to equal the new TT S? 800 crank hp?pdk with launch control goes a long way. I have spent a good bit of time in a pdk 997TT.. The acceleration and handling are far superior to the 996TT, but if u like modding your car a lot, want manual tranny, like a more raw feeling, and dont want to drop $140k + on a used 997 TTS, 996Tt is a great car

And you'll be going from 0-300 where in London? 0-60 seems pretty meaningful when you put reality into perspective.

0-60 meaningless performance data and we all agree and ridiculous to compare TTS acceleration to Veyron ??? It's important to me and everyone I know. It also appears to be important to car manufacturers, writers/editors and readers of car magazines and many car enthusiasts. It may not be the only or most important measure of performance, but it is and always will be a measure of performance, just as 0-100, 1/4 mile, torque, hp, top speed, skidpad G, braking, rolling acceleration, handling, hp to weight ratio are measures of performance. Comparing the 0-60 time of a $170K car with one that costs nearly 10X's more, especially when the difference is only 2 tenths of a second, is clearly not ridiculous, just as comparing their top speed, 1/4 mi etc. isn't ridiculous. I'll always consider 0-60 and all the other measurements of performance along with cost, reliability and looks when comparing cars.

Oh no that put me straight... 0-60 is meaningless. Period. Traction issues and gearing differences are at play and it is therefore a crap way of measuring car's true performance. I didn't bring veyron into the equation. Read the whole thread before stating your ill-informed believes. Porsche now puts 0-160km/h and 0-200km/h as they consider this to be true performance measurement allowing for traction and gearing differences.

I just think its cool that my sub 200k turbo S with about 10k of loving isnt left in the dust by one of the fastest cars in the world that costs 1-2.6 million even after an interestingly long distance. And meanwhile, people "just" see me in "a porsche." I like that...haha.

Why the hate? Dudes are excited the TTS keeps up at all. No one says it's the superior car.

The truth is sometimes SO damned funny!

I totally agree, I want to enjoy the synergy of ME DRIVING my car, not MY CAR driving me. But for the video game generation, I totally see the appeal of the electronics. And notwithstanding the above comments about involvement in driving, I'm still diggin on the 458 and 12C........

I'm confused with where you guys keep coming up with this 'double the price' thing for a 997 turbo s. 996 turbos with the x50 or S seem to be trading in roughly the high 40s, low to mid 50s range, low 60s on the high side for the latest year S's I would think.

My local dealer has 2 brand new 997 turbo S's. The sticker on the one that I drool over (because it was spec'ed literally exactly how I would have spec'ed it from the factory) is $170k. This other one they have is $160k and change. The cheapest one I'm seeing on the car sites is around $140k with 10k miles. They all seem to be in the $150k range for lightly used cars.

So the 997 turbo S is actually 3 times the price of the 996 currently. Is it 3 times the car? I think that's tough to say. I daily my 996ttx50 but after the last couple of years of heavy commuting with stick shift cars, and a bunch of miles, I wanted to get into something with a little bit newer comfort features and paddles. I wanted legit paddles though... not some weak benz tranny (great for benz and what you look to get from one, but not for me). I was in the $100K realm when I was looking to order something so being the turbo s was $170k, I ordered something else.

If you guys know where to pick up 997tts's for $100K, please help a brotha out! haha
