poorsche is infamous around these parts
New 997 Owner

I have had the car for about 2 months now and I have to say I am impressed despite the fact that I have not reached the break in mileage yet. I am annoyed by a few things.

1. The deviating stitching on my e brake was done in white despite all the other deviating stitching being red. Dealer told me that is the way porsche does it but I think that is bad information. I paid a custom shop $150 to change the stitching.

2. I have black wheels and porsche left the barrel (the inside of the wheel) aluminum. I didn't think it was a big deal until the wheels got dirty and it looks awful. I am having the powder coated as I type this.

3. The dealer prep work that was done on the paint is horrible. I would think with a $180k car the dealer would be better trained on how to treat paint.

4. Ground clearance. Just now learning how to make the appropriate approach to a driveway !

Can't wait to get to 2000 miles!

All these are minor issues, and you have done very well in sorting them out yourself! Enjoy ownership, dont be too gentle on break in, and get the car detailed professionally. Some members here specifically request that their cars are not dealer prepped on delivery...

Previously I owned bmws and never let the dealer touch the car. I just assumed a porsche dealer would be more delicate.

Love the car though!!!!!

Deviated stitching on the handbrake is often incorrectly ordered... you have to get one of the two Porsche Exclusive handbrakes in order to get stitching.

Great car, driving in NYC daily must be hairy. I have enough trouble navagating the roads on LI. If you enter the driveways on an angle where one front wheel hits the lowest point fist one at a time, I find it to be the most sucessfull way to enter although nothing is full or fool proof. LOL

If you have the stock lip, it has been pretty durable and in the unp[aited version it is cheap and easy enough to change if it get uglied up.

Enjoy the car andf I hope to see you at some of the local events.

i can't believe that a dealor would sit there, look you in the eyes and just lie to you about the handbrake. so much for trust in that business relationship.

Sorry about your issues with the dealer, but I'm glad I'm no the only one. I am on my third lip spoiler and keep spares around.

Make sure you take it to a reputable place to have the wheel drums powder coated. Given the heat involved in making the powder coat melt and stick, you want to make sure that they know what they are doing and that they don't damage the integrity of the wheel material.

As a second option, you can have it painted at a reputable place and given that it's on the inside of the wheel you shouldn't notice much difference.

Enjoy the car!
