Driving the garage queen !!!!!
Welcome back! I definitely like this path more than the almost purchase of the Panamera. So a Cayenne is in the stable now too? Will have to hear more...I eventually want to make my 'other car' a Cayenne, just feels like the right combo with the TT.
Curious to learn more about how the PDK changed from 997.2 to 991. I've only heard the general "it's better" but haven't had a chance to drive it yet so eager to hear how that transmission has evolved.
My vote is you always keep your 997 tt. So much has gone into making it just right, especially with the clutch work you've put into it, the 6speed could become the ever-more-rare-to-find setup. So much fun in being that connected to the car. I personally can't get enough of the driving experience after doing the same GT2 clutch conversion...it's just TOO much fun to shift! Hope the tt stays in your hands long term, regardless of what the next porsche is.
all the best...

1) We love the Cayenne . I never thought an SUV would be this appealing . It is the first rational car I ever bought in terms of space, style, comfort, performance, safety. fuel economy (picked a V6) .. the list goes on.
2) 991 PDK is incredible . There is no longer a jerky downshift from 2 to 1 in sport mode , the shifts are faster , more efficient rev matching .. its just night and day over the 997. The 991 is the real deal I had custom speced and ordered a car and was set to buy it . I decided to wait for the Turbo because the 991S is really that good . Keep in mind that the price of a 991S with options now costs as much as a 997.1 Turbo in 07 . If this 20 percent increase goes toward the new Turbo I will place the new car in a different market . Cars like the Mclaren 12c and Ferrari 458 become potential equal cost contenders . Gotat wait and see .
3) Agree with you on the 997 Turbo and the work that went into my car .

The people who did 2.9 in their GT-R/PDK Turbo DID do something - they bought a car that allows them to achieve advertised times. The downside? They have to listen to the 1000 excuses from those who 'prefer' the slower manual cars, because it is a better experience, clutch pedals have a soul, RWD is for men, it's more rewarding, feels great to put your hand on another stick, etc...

best quote of this thread!
Enjoy driving your garage queen, and savor it.
Really? 55mph? You should visit the US, that way you wouldn't make such ignorant comments. You might learn a lot about how we drive (included posted speed limits, as well as speeds actually traveled), tracks we use, drag strips that some run on, airstrips, etc...
The reality is - the driver of the PDK, can ACTUALLY achieve the posted times advertised by the manufacturer. Manual transmission cars are usually bench raced by people who THINK they know how to drive.

Sub 3 second drag races where prob. the last reason I bought my Porsche.

What I didn't realize was the significant improvement of PDK gen 2 over gen 1, since I don't own gen 1. Is it only in sport mode that PDK gen 2 is better/smoother? Or is it an all-around very obvious improvement in all modes?
In the recent shuffle of car decisions I had the time to re evaluate each car . The M3, Cayenne, 997tt is in my opinion the best combination for my driving needs to date.
I had my gen 1 for three years . The most noticeable difference was in sport mode but I did not drive the car in sport plus as the test car lacked sport chrono . In sport mode in "auto" mode the shift speed was faster and there was no jerkiness going from 2 to 1 . In fact even in manual mode I felt the speed of shifts in sport mode compared to sport plus on the older car .
I was so blown away by the improvement that it ruined my perception of my 09 car . It's that good .
It raises the question of will it further improve ? Also the 991 has so many technological gadgets .. will they improve too .. and if so will the fast evolving technology render the car dated quickly ?
