Smile New 997.2 Rear Light IDEA....

Hello all,

I just got myself a 09 997.1 TT last week and totally amazed by the how good this car is! I love it so far The only thing i was considering changing was the rear lights, upgrade them to 997.2 LED's. Since i have a black car, i am inclined to buying the clear tail lights. After posting and doing a forum search, i found that many members consider the clears to be rice and prefer the red's.

This is what i am considering. Buying the clear tail lights and putting a red sticker to mask the clear lens in a different but subtle design change. One with the centre red strip and one without.

Please give your inputs to let me know if this is a good idea.

Thanks,

Mathew

The OEM 997.2 lights won't fit on the 997.1 - look closely and you can see they are different shape so they need a different bumper.

Yes i noticed that and ATOMIC's DIY was very useful. So i have the list of parts that needs to be changed. I was wondering which of the lousy photoshop edits of mine looks the best for the 'Clear' tail lights. Thanks for your input.

You need the bumper, exhaust tip surrounds, bumper bracket and the modules from FVD and a set of lights and reuse the lower spoiler from your original bumper!

I have done this and it is so worth it IMO, much better than these tacky AM light available.

I also put the gen.2 fogs and no modules are required unless you want them to dim!!

On a black car I would go original red or clear lights as they both look great IMO just personal colour choice is down to you.

PCCB is infamous around these parts
I personally like to keep my cars as is when it comes to how they look (Porsche already did a great job) with the exception of power-kits when available. But hey, if it makes you enjoy your already amazing car, then go for it considering all the other parts needed.

Hey Buddy! very interesting ideas, I would personally go for the clear centers (last attachment) or the standard OEM clear lights.

Goodluck!

I have all the parts for the leds conversion except the rear bumper. The current bumper will be filled on the gap with the new taillight and the exhaust holes will be cut to accept the bigger exhaust surroundings. Went this route because i don't need another trash to fill my garage and at the same time it allow me to save half the cost of a new bumper.

To avoid leds errors i bought carnewal modules which are a fraction of the cost than techart or fvd. The only diference is that the wires need to be solder. This also prevents electric bad conections from water or dust.

When I purchased my gen 2 bumper it was half the price of the gen 1 bumper

I wish i could find such a bargain like you did. The paint shop quoted me €150 EUR for the job.
