'07 Turbo - advice?
'07 Turbo - advice?
Hello, I'm a long time fan of this site. I just joined today because I'm looking to buy my first Porsche.
I'm looking to buy a 2007 Turbo/Tip in black with 38K miles. Not a CPO car but it is a two owner with both owners being brothers. The car has a good story and is exceptionally clean.
What should I look for in this deal? I've done my research, am confident that this is the car for me and did not find anything in my research online that concerns me other than that the car is out of warranty.
I've heard all sorts of claims of excessive maintenance costs and that I should definitely buy some after market extended warranty. And, others (non-owners but who 'know some guy' etc) who claimed that if the car is not a CPO or covered by some sort of warranty that I should not even consider the car.
The dealer quoted an after market warranty (Advantage) to 75K miles for $4500 which seems like a bit much. Are there other warranty companies I should consider? Do I even need an after market warranty at all? I know repairs are expensive but I've always viewed these 'offers' as pretty much legalized gambling with the 'house' always having the advantage.
Can any owners here give me the straight skinny on an '07 Turbo cost of ownership and whether this is a wise move given it is not a CPO/Warranted car? I don't want my heart to get my wallet in deep water.

Yep, I'm working that angle too. So you feel a warranty is a good investment as long as the cost for it is reasonable? I would think this would be true.
One view for you. Check out the brakes and tires. Not that expensive, but they are a cost. Biggest thing at that mileage - have the plugs been changed? They can be over $1000, depending on where you have them done. You seem to got to know the owners. Do you have the service records? With the tip, you avoid the clutch and slave cylinder.
How long will you own the car? Get a good inspection to know if there are any issues. Getting a warranty at that mileage will be expensive. The cost can cover several rather unlikely issues, like a water pump, etc.
Depends how attached you are to the car. I would only say that a black tip is an easy car to find. If you want a tip, there are plenty to chose from on the market.

4500 seems really steep and I doubt that will cover any wear and tear expenses. Based on what services have been completed (Plugs are the big one) and remaining life of tires, pads, and rotors, you should be able to get a handle on the 'predictable' expenses you will encounter.
