Cloudy, spotted Clear Bra ??

I had clear bra film installed on my new 2009 Turbo when I got it. It looked very nice and hardly seen, just a slight line on the hood and mirrors. It's a DD when the roads are clear of winter crap.

Within a couple years, there were spots on the bra from bugs and road debris. And, it started to not look all that grand.

Then, last fall, I see that the film is spotted and cloudy. Very noticeable. I've used Plexis on the film since new ... as I do on my motorcycle windscreens.

Nothing seems to make a difference ... looks like water spots.

Anyone have this experience? And, if so, what to do?

I looked in the glove cubby, but could not find out what brand it is. I believe it is 3M Clearbra, but not sure.

I called the dealership, but they only gave me the name of the installer "back then". I'm not sure he's still in business since he was in a very bad accident couple years ago. The dealer knows me and would only put on high end film.

I asked this question on a couple forums last year, too. No one knew what to make of it.

You may need up replacing it - without photos, it's hard to tell what it really looks like. A few companies offered warranties, but without knowing exactly which brand and how old the material is, you may be out of luck.

Thank you, bbywu ... I fully understand. I'm trying to find out what brand it is, and think I'll find out once I talk to my service rep that delivered the car, as well as other cars. He's aware, but was not in today.

I don't really care about the warranty, altho that is an issue if this brand is warranted for 7 years. I'm not looking at that, however. Just trying to get the reasons why this film is flimy.

I'll find out manana which brand the bra is. And, perhaps get some photogs of the bra as well. BTW, the spots are EVERYWHERE, not just here and there.

Taking a beating over a few years especially with winter and road additives really takes a toll on them.
Out here the sun tends to get them to turn a yellow hue over time.

Understood. But, this has not changed color, or become yellow. Just hazy and spotted.

I did speak with a couple installers of 3M stuff. They said that removing the film could remove the #$&ing paint! R U kidding me ?!

I just replaced mine a few months ago. Only have 18k miles but it's been on since new and wanted a fresh application. Couple that with better film technology now and I was able to replace the rock guards at the same time.

I was never able to get some of the stubborn bug/bird residue in small spots. When I tried to remove stains it would scratch the film a just annoy me more.

If you aren't able to find the details you need for warranty coverage I 'd put some new film on and enjoy the new look.

I have the same experience with the bug guts, etc. Tried to remove with a bit of alcohol ... made it worse. Was told to leave it in the hot sun, too. Didn't work.

I'll prolly end up removing and reinstalling new.

Doing 3M high end for the entire front end, mirrors, rock guards ... what should I expect for a price?

3m ?

I have an '09 turbo also. With 20k miles my 3M front end looks as fresh today as it did 4 years ago. I'm a 3M direct installer since 1999. It sounds like your top or clear coat on that film is diminished--hence the hazing. From your description, does not sound like 3M, and from 2007-on 3M film is not prone to yellowing either.

If it is 3Mit has a 5 year national and transferable warranty. Contact your selling dealer for paperwork and I or another authorized 3M agent can replace at no charge. Hope this helps.

That's good to know. I'll have to speak with the selling dealer today to see if it is, indeed, a 3M product.

I didn't know there was a clear coat on the film. Tho't it was "just film".

Thanx.

I'll send you a PM with pricing details. I'm sensitive to the fact there me be others on the board who paid X and it's never easy to read what others paid as each is vehicle is handled differently.
