Yes officer, I do have a front license plate. Look again ...

"I am sure CA has that rule but not one of my cars has ever had a front plate. If the San Jose PD has nothing better to do then to stop me for a missing front plate that would be sad. "
Don't park in Palo Alto without a front plate. Only place I ever got ticketed for no plate.

I have not heard of a case where they pull you over for a missing front plate. I've only heard cases where if you're pulled over for something else, they will add on another citation for the missing front plate. And they go after you when you're parked on any public/city-owned street. Non public parking lots are fine.

+1. Palo Alto is very bad. But so is San Francisco.. apparently the meter maids will ticket you for it when parked on the street.

Also received a ticket when my SL55 was parked in SF with no front plate. Not a big deal and it did get me out of a ticket once in my TT as the officer clocked me at 34 in a 25 zone (!) and felt bad - he noticed the missing front plate and said he'd give me a break and only wrote the fix it ticket. Maybe there is an advantage to not having one....

I have been pulled over in SF for no front plate on my M3. No other reason for the traffic stop. I zip tied the front plate to the lower egg crate grill, had a LEO at a nearby station sign off on the ticket and sent in my $10. The front plate is still zip tied on the M3 and I have a tow hook mount on the 997TT.

i'm certain that in CA, ( no matter where ) it is only a matter of time before one will be ticketed for no front plate. ( i have many times, even with a temp reg clearly visible) i now have the tow hook plate holder, though i curiously lost one of those at speed also..advice is to keep it "center" mounted, not mounted far left which LOOKS best ).
i also believe, as a previous poster stated, that for minor infractions that can go either way, having no front plate gives LEO a chance to cite for a less punitive infraction. either way, you're gonna get a ticket for something,.. sooner or later.. or it just isn't a porsche. that retractable thing looks gimmicky as ****. i'd give it a week. tops.

I guess I've just been lucky. 10 years on 4 cars all with no front plates. Been ticketed only once ever for a $20 fixit and that was while parked on the street in Sunnyvale. (knock on wood).
