seat belt for track day
seat belt for track day
First track day in TT coming up. Is there a way to get the oem belts to provide a constant tension (tight)? Last time out I was still in old 4S and occasionally felt that I was sliding around in the seat. I don't really want to put in a 5 pt. harness for a couple of days each year.
If you have a power seat and OEM belts you have everything you need.
Here is what you do:
1) Move seat back.
2) Remove most of the slack from the belt.
3) Yank belt so it locks in place. Hold it there with one hand.
4) While ensuring constant tension on the belt so it stays locked, move seat forward to your normal driving position.
5) Done! Your belt should now be taught around your upper body and waist.
It will take some practice to make it perfect but it is the best you can do without a 5pt.
Have fun

I used to have these when I tracked my CTS-V. Worked very well! Make sure you get one for the passenger seat too. Instructors don't like to be flying all over the place either.
Curious though as a friend has an older (1995) Volvo sportwagon that if you pull the seat belt all the way out it ratchets back in, locking at each click. I think that it is designed for use with kids' booster seats but also works on the driver's seat. Seems that this type of mechanism should be available somewhere......
