997.2 Turbo S Oil recommendations?

Hello,

I'm close to doing the first Oil change in my car. I know manual says Mobil 1 0W40, but I know there's other brands out there that could be better?

I'm looking into recommendations . Amsoil? Castrol? Shell?

Would anyone like to help please? I have the chance of buying it in USA since a relative is there right now and can send it over .

Thank you.

Agreed. Had my first service done on my 12' TTS. They used Mobil 0W-40 if that helps.

I used Mobil 1 10w40 Turbo Diesel oil in my 996 GT2. Seemed to work well.

+1. Just got an oil change and the mechanic (which has a great reputation and lots of experience), used the Castrol Edge 5W-40 with SPT. Oil change with filter was $105 USD.

I have this in my 997.1T.
Used to have Mobil 5-50 but SPORTEC (the tuner of my car) put 10-60 Castrol, they use that oil in all of their vehicles, both street and track.

I've been told (maybe in error) that one of the reasons for the 0w and 5w viscosity recommendations was for efficient operation of the variocam. I've run 0w-40 and now 5w-40 in the hot Texas weather and everything seems fine - no consumption and good solid temps.

I use Shell Rotella T6 fully synthetic diesel oil. I've been using this oil for many years on all my vehicles including my Bimota motorcycle. No complaints so far.
