Strange Issue/Concern - IMS?

I have been scanning online for about 5 hours now looking for some hope.
I returned home after a week long trip and fired up the TT. All was fine on a 20 minute drive. When leaving to head back home after being parked for about an hour, upon engine start there was a terrible metal noise at idle and at random rpm ranges when driving and decel (but not when revving in neutral at stand still). The noise would do away for a while and then return intermittently. Its just a terrible noise - and I haven't been able to stop thinking about this situation.
Is it possible that I have an IMS fail?
-Oil leaking from rear left, somewhat watery from an oil line, but def oil. (only when car is on)
-crazy loud rattling noise as if coins are placed in a soda can and shaken (although not all the time, it does occur suddenly and loud, then goes away for a while)
Car was driving fine. I was hesitant to drive it normally/aggressively but everything seemed to run fine, no errors or warnings, no fault codes. I dropped it off to a trusted indy tonight to determine issues.
its an 07 TT with 43k. I was reading IMS is common for 996 and early 997, but being a TT, is IMS issue an anomaly? Or am I in a serious situation here...
Any info/input greatly appreciated.
