A flash would negate the lack of sc, but no adaptives would be a deal breaker for me, they're that good.

Yeah, had adaptives in my last 997. They were great. We'll see how much the standard seats bother me.

I'm driving the car as my daily so not too worried about MORE boost on my way to work. The car is even more than I need daily, but figured I'd try a TT. Figured the low miles made this special and I won't get crushed on resell.

I see the argument on resell without sc, but it's a clean example at a decent price.

Personally I find the sc to be a gimmick, I couldn't care less if my car had it or not. Like I said, if you want more boost, a flash is the way to go.

Chris, albeit a little self-serving for what im about to buy, I agree! Didn't have it on my last 997. Prefer the clean dash, but now covered in leather!

Sorry about the newb questions, but what does a dash look like that isn't covered in leather? I thought they all were, but obviously I'm mistaken. Mine has option 970 "two tone leather interior." Thanks.

I think TTs might have full leather standard, though not sure. My 997.1S had the same kind of dash that was in our Honda odyssey

Yes full leather is standard, only natural leather is an option. I point out the sc issue as it can affect resale. There are very few turbos without it.

What's the difference standard leather and natural leather? Just the color? I googled it, but couldn't tell any difference. Just curious.

I believe it is the dye process. AFAIK the natural colors are natural Brown, Grey and carrera red.

The best explanation of natural leather difference is this , not mine , found it on the net :

"Leather is a starting point for a car manufacturer. With the base leather, the leather is stretched and the outer layer is sanded off and a new grain is embossed into it to make it more uniform. This increases the porosity of the leather when the outside is sanded off and it accepts color better. However, it doesn't hold up as well unless a sealer is applied. So the "leather" interior is considerably changed from its natural state. It is now thinner, uniform in both grain and color, and sealed against UV and infrared damage from the sun, making it suitable for an automobile use. Since it is stretched thinner you don't notice that it is slightly stiffer. It could be dark black or dark grey according to what the designer wanted. Full leather has nothing to do with what kind of leather is used, although the designer might specify a better grade if their research indicates the consumer expects it with the cost upgrade.

Natural leather is not stretched. It is natural thickness and has the natural grain still intact. It is tumble dyed in large drums that constantly roll and knead it to get it to accept the color. This softens it much like you would soften a dry chamois by kneading it. It retains the natural, saddle-like leather smell without adding synthetic aromas. The comfort, if you took the time to compare it, is obvious to the educated rear end. Even though less is done to cure leather this way, it is still more expensive since you get fewer square feet of leather out of a hide. The UV and infrared sealants are introduced into the leather while it is tumbling in the dye soaked drums and like the dye, is soaked all the way through the leather rather than added with the sealant.

Additional leather options in a Porsche, beyond the full leather option, show the skill and technology that Porsche craftsmen are capable of. For leather air conditioner vents, the leather is stretched almost paper thin to cover the plastic vanes of the outlet. Also, the match between what is leather and what is similar to leather is outstanding by automobile standards."

Thanks for adding, much better explanation! Btw, very expensive option.

I couldn't imagine paying extra for nicer leather in my TT, especially if its expensive. The leather in my car is perfect.

which 997 TT to buy

I'm looking for an '07 or '09 TT and have narrowed it down to a couple available near me. I would appreciate any thoughts on which might be the better car/value and if the prices are reasonable, as I am a novice when it comes to the value of different factory options and aftermarket upgrades. Thank you in advance for your input!

IMO none of those are a great deal. The low mile 07 is nicely optioned, but $10k over priced. Not sure on the 09 because I haven't looked at those much. The higher mileage 07 is also $10-15k overpriced. Just my opinion. All that being said, I'm of the mindset that finding the perfect used car is tough, so if you have laid eyes on one and love it, that's worth something.
