Thanks dewilmoth. That's what i was wondering. I really like the well optioned '07 but I'm not a big fan of carbon fiber package. The '09 is attractive because it still has a few years of warranty left. Tough choices! I plan to look at them this weekend and hopefully that helps with my decision.

always get a ppi regardless if its cpo, 1 year old or 20 years old, you cant tell what may be wrong with it just by looking at the paint, cheapest insurance policy you will ever buy

Thanks for the reminder buzzm. I had one done when I bought my 996 which showed a few worn items that needed to be replaced. Its definitely worth the money to have one done. Any recommendations for someone in the LA area? I only know some people here in OC that would do one for me.

All that being said, I'm of the mindset that finding the perfect used car is tough, so if you have laid eyes on one and love it, that's worth something.
I looked at the cars in the links and your estimations are all correct.

I think the one that should be the best 'deal' will be the 'higher' mileage 07 (22k), but the owner is trying to get an extra $15K out of his mods, mainly because he paid probably $30k for them or more.

Thanks for the input djben. The owner of the '07 with the mods claims the car was not tracked, abuse, etc.... In your opinion, would someone really put all these mods on a car and NOT take it to the track???

in a different thread somewhere else on the board someone made the point that often times a tracked car is not a strike against it, its often times owned by someone who is far more knowledgeable about wear items and upkeep and parts are checked more often and more parts may have been replaced/upgraded. obviously this is not always true but its not always true that a car that has seen track time has been used and abused and put away wet etc.

unless someone has a full cage and gutted interior i wouldnt assume any particular mods mean its been tracked, i have coilovers and various other things but ive never been to a track in my life...i have no skills and would likely immediately crash into a barrier...or other driver

The majority of turbos, and gt3s for that matter, never see the track.

Thanks for the feedback buzzm and TT Surgeon. I guess my concern would be more that it WAS tracked and the owner is trying to hide it. Any opinion on which you would prefer...... a nicely optioned '07 with low miles, or a less optioned higher mileage '07 with the mods that are most suggested/common to improve the .1 closer to the handling of the .2?

In this case, yes.

That car has 20" wheels which are not a performance improving upgrade.

The 15" Brembo brakes are also just for show. The car already has a great Brembo brake setup from the factory.

update: i saw all three cars yesterday and the '09 is by far the best. Only 8,500 miles ad the interior is near perfect and there are only a few minor scratches on the car. It defiitely needs a good polish, but I'm happy to do that as car detailing is a hobby of mine. i made an offer of $85k and he accepted. Now, just need a PPI to confirm there are no easy to spot problems with the car. Anyone know of someone in the Irwindale/Pasadena area i could trust? Owner claims he just had car serviced at Rusnak and there are no issues with car, but i still want a PPI done for peace of mind. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated or any other thoughts on things i should do prior to finalizing purchase.

In the ad he mentions a factory approved am exhaust, of course there is no such thing. If the dme scan is clean, you're golden.
85 on a low mile 09 is a steal, those cars are trading in the 90s all day long.

Wow, $10k off his asking price right off the bat. Nice bargaining, haha. That sounds well bought if there aren't any issues.

yes, good point on the exhaust. He claims a tech from the dealership did it on the side. Anything else i should ask about the exhaust? he is also going to give the original exhaust. is there an after market demand for parts like this? Do you think its safe to just call the dealership for a DME and forego the full PPI? Only other thing I WOULD like checked is the front spoiler lip is pretty scratched and the center air intake of the bumper where the black slats are has come away a little from the painted part of the bumper. Hope that description make sense. i think this is just from coming out/in a driveway at too step of an angle and the clip can be popped back in?

The front lip is a couple hundred dollar part. Definitely not a deal breaker. Maybe just ask him to buy a new one as part of the sale. As for the PPI, I didn't get one, and on a car with warranty I wouldn't get one, but lots of people disagree with that. The paint is the only thing I would want checked for a PPI, so I would just go over it very carefully myself. YMMV of course.
