Well if you look up Porsche's own press release from 2006 regarding our turbo's, they even claim that the tiptronic S transmission has been improved to allow for better brake boosting (google it and you should find it). So these cars are designed to do this. Problem is, my transmission was replaced last year under CPO because of leak. I didn't brake boost more than a handful of times and I have a neighbor who has a 996 turbo who had the same leak and never boosted. So was it because of the few times I launched the car that way or was it going to inevitably break? My recommendation is enjoy the car but make sure to have a CPO or buy an aftermarket warranty as I have. That transmission would've cost $15k .

I tested this so many times.

If you dont press kickdown switch while flooring the throttle, it will again switch from M to A, but not that moment, it will switch after a while, maybe about 8-10 seconds later, i can't remember exactly now.

Cheers,

Got it.

What if you have the shift **** in M and then press all the way including the kickdown switch? Shifts for you or rev limiter?

try it - experiment with the car & see- try various scenarios in auto & manual mode- both with sport mode on and off- it's interesting- i've only had my 07 TT tip 4 months now-

As said previously, in normal driving auto mode always seems to be in higher gear than i want. I normally use manual mode and shift myself in normal driving. I only use auto when car is cold- till oil reaches 175 or so, then put it in manual and keep revs higher-

in auto mode flooring it hard - trans kicks down to lowest gear possible quickly & hold on - it then upshifts automatically.

in manual mode, flooring it hard won't make it downshift to a lower gear- it will stay in gear it is in- but it will upshift to higher gear by itself at max rpm - when your foot is to floor in manual mode or in auto mode you don't have to worry about overrevs or up shifting- trans shifts up for you. It's nice- it's no PDK, but it's not bad for an auto trans.

Thanks for your insight. Can you describe a scenario in which one would experience hitting the rev limiter?

don't think you can hit rev limiter with Tip- it shifts up before rev limiter
kicks in- in either manual or auto mode- My car has 0 over revs as shown with durametric- trans has upshifted by itself at max rpms with no over revs-
not sure if getting one of the ECU tunes which allow a higher rpm will cause overrevs with the tip or not.

I think you're right and I've thought the same thing: you can't over rev a tip. Although you don't have the fun of rowing the gears, you get a faster 0-60 compared to a manual and you avoid abusing the engine. Seems like all that should help resale value esp as it seems people are really concerned about DME reports before they buy a car. I didn't know anything about over revs before I bought mine and only learned about them after I joined this forum. Lucky I guess I got a tip

Over revs in the 1-2 range are no big deal...It is the ones after you have to worry about. You can, in fact get level 1-2 with a Tiptronic...Again, no big deal. After a software tune, it will spike up to redline faster, and more likely to get to the 1-2 range (again...no biggie). After my tune, headers, and exhaust it is a beast, and hard to even shift before it wants to cut out at rev limit!

Enjoy it, and don't worry so much about it. The DME will protect you in most any normal scenario..and even some odd ones...

I was told you can over rev a Tip, that is get the revs beyond range 1 or 2. The way? Going down a hill that is steep enough to cause the vehicle speed to increase.

It doesn't take too much hill to get my 03 Turbo manual in 6 gear to pick up speed even if my foot is off the gas pedal.
