Tiptronic Rev Limit

When the gear shifter is in full Auto mode, obviously the car will shift at whichever max RPM your tuner has set the shift point at. When you move the gear shifter to the left - to Manual mode - and then use the steering wheeling buttons to shift up through the gear box, you risk running into the rev limiter.

What happens if you leave the gear shifter in Auto, downshift with the buttons, and put the pedal to the floor?

Will you run into the rev limiter or will the car up shift at the max RPM?

Sorry if that's confusing lol.

No- as long as you're in auto mode you will not hit the rev limiter .

It's confusing because the display on the dash will display manual mode if you leave the gear shifter in Auto but you have used the buttons to downshift.

Does the rev limiter hurt the tranny - might be dumb question.

I guess my question is, what constitutes being in Auto mode? You can leave the shift **** in the Auto position and still manually shift with the buttons.

What I'm I'm wondering is if you leave the shift **** in auto, then down shift with the buttons (to pass or start corner) can you then mash the pedal and expect not to hit the rev limiter?

The manual stats that the car will not let you overrev. If you leave it in A hit the button the car will go into manual mode and it will let you run up to the limiter then shift.
You can downshift as much as the revs will handle or it wont go into gear.

Am I going to be at 7k in 2nd then try to downshift into first just to test? $#@$@#$%@#%$@# NO!!! The car doesnt rev match so if you arent standing on it you will lurch a bit. I will say that if you put your foot on the floor in Auto you dont need to shift it will do it for you and you will need both hands on the wheel for the torque you are about to get hit with

When would one find it useful to move the shift **** from A to M?

Humm, for the few times you want to go nuts from a dig/standstill. I love my tip and its the best because of those reasons, I am faster than the 6spds and I have More fun driving it.
Honestly I Rarely use manual and mainly just downshift then I put it back in A

I've found you can down shift while leaving the shift **** in A, the dash light will say M because you downshifted but if you put your boot into it the car will still auto shift up for you. No need to ever put the center console gear **** in M.

Putting it in M only means you risk hitting the rev limiter.

i find when i drive my 07 tt tip in auto mode it's always upshifting to higher gear than i want- even in sport mode- in auto downshifting with button and without full throttle will keep it in lower gear for 8 sec or so, then it upshifts- this is in normal driving in town - in auto mode in any gear or speed when you floor it hard it downshifts to lowest gear based on rpm and then shifts automatically at max rpm.
in manual mode with sport on- under full throttle it will shift automatically thru gears on it's own if you keep full throttle- I normally use manual mode to keep rpm's up at least 2800-3200 all the time- in auto mode it's always shifting up and running at
2-2400 prms in normal city driving.
as said elsewhere the tip shouldn't allow any over revs with stock tune. i looked at my ecu with durametric and no overrevs in 1-6 at all.

That doesnt matter because its 1 overrev which means zero on a DME report.

For what it's worth, I very rarely drive mine in auto mode. I find that it shifts way too early. And since I got my EP1, I like to rev it higher and hear the exhaust. In fact, I drive my tip around like a 6speed and downshift and upshift as if it were a stick (or PDK for that matter). The only time I ever put it in Auto is when I'm brake boosting or I want to take off hard from a dig. In those cases, I find the computer shifts better than me.

Interesting. Are you talking about rolling break boosting or from a dig?

I've never done it in my 997tt. Been too scared to break something. Or is that fear unfounded?

Hello,

Shift **** Auto mode

You downshift with buttons,

then if you press the throttle fully (including the kickdown switch), the gearbox will automatically switch from M to A on the instrument cluster.

I tested this so many times.

If you dont press kickdown switch while flooring the throttle, it will again switch from M to A, but not that moment, it will switch after a while, maybe about 8-10 seconds later, i can't remember exactly now.

Cheers,
Emre

Brake Boost? hit the brake gas till you see boost then release brake and stand on it son. Make sure your neck is straight and your passengers because you will get a strain
