I just looked at a nice white/blue ford gt, now that is a car!
Disagree, unless driving to you is shifting. To me is the feel of the road and the forces in play.
I guess its the reason purists in aviation love the old planes that you just sit back and enjoy the flight aspect, not stopping to move gauges and *****. In fact most of the planes built for aerobatics are automatics if you will.

Then again there are people that enjoy the mechanical side, and others that enjoy the road. I guess to use military speak, you have technical dudes and operational dudes. Dont for a minute think that the operational guys dont want to know how their jet/weapon/gear works they know, we know the weapons systems how they work as the jet inside and out. We just press the "i believe" button when it comes to the actuation of those parts. But they enjoy the tool and what it does, rather than how it does it. Example picturing the actuation of the wires and electrons as they work the elevators and Ailerons. I just want to max perform and not worry about the rest
I think thats why you dont have the top drivers whining about a car being a manual anymore. They love how much more in touch they are with the road with the boring tip and PDK.

Not sure I'd let the autopilot perform a loop or split S for me. Try a different analogy.

You are completely missing the point. THE SYSTEM is automatically run. You set your system up and start. For instance you still have to drive the car in a TIP or 6Spd. The engine management is taken over. Check that, transmission! management is taken over

Just like in Aero, I still have to hit my marks. I just dont have to worry when I am in a highspeed stall at 80 degrees nose down, what my settings are and that I need to jam the prop forward, go full rich and then jam the rpms. Nope All I have to think about is Oh crap the ailerons arent responding because I put too much deflection in. All i need to do is reset to neutral then slowly pull...woohooo trees are getting smaller.

To equate a tip with a robot driven car, which is basically what George is( what all Mil at least pilots call autopilot) is uninformed and ridiculous.

Let me add that flying in a GA High Perf commuter is a lot like driving a 6 spd. Always looking for a way to maximize something like Fuel burn, speed, etc. Rowing gears truly has nothing to do with driving, it has to do with engine/transmission, management. Yes you can pick an optimal gear, you can heel to toe and that is all fun and everything, you can also help put yourself into a wall, but that is saying the most fun about driving a Steam locomotive is shoveling the coal.
