Torque Solutions Engine Mounts First Impressions
Torque Solutions Engine Mounts First Impressions
After reading this site and others about the potential improvements and risks, I decided to install the Torque Solutions Engine Mounts, and I thought I would provide the forum with some of my impressions for anyone else considering an engine mount change.....
So the install is pretty easy....Remove all your intake pieces in the engine compartment and you have pretty good access. I used some DIY help from this site...THANKS! Support engine with a Jack and take the two bolts off the top, and the one 18MM nut off the bottom...and reverse to install new ones...DONE.
An observation here....There are square pegs on the bottom of the mounts that slide in to the square holes on the engine hanger...I tried and tried with no luck to get them to fit with the TS mounts. I turned them and jacked up the engine more and tapped them...no go! Ended up lightly filing down the squares with a metal file to just shave it down a tad...then it went right in!
After install and tightening up...You can feel a VERY slight vibration in the car from the lack of hydraulic/rubber bushings on the OEM. You also save 3 LBS of weight from OEM. The vibration is VERY subtle and hardly noticeable, so I am pleased with the result there....
Took it out for a spin (and have been driving for a couple of weeks now)...And you can definitely feel that it seems crisper. When you accelerate hard, the shifts used to feel sloppy and the car seemd to shake...That is gone. The jumpy sloppy feeling when you first take off is gone now too..feels very tight. Engine seems secure and solid, and no sloshing around....
Overall...very pleased...and the great news is that it is 100% revversable. The build quality on the TS mounts seems very good also and they look very good.
So to summarize...Very slight vibration if any...crisper shifts....less sloppy and more torque feel at take off. It is noticable.
Hope that helps anyone considering these, or other semi-solid mounts...
BTW..I have no affiliation with this product or any reseller....And there are other brands to consider...This is just my experience with the ones I purchaced

As I mentioned....You get a little, but not much at all. I like the way it feels and do not mind the little extra, in return for the crisper launching and shifts.
Issue here is just like with exhaust debates, everyone will have preferences, so what I may think is fine...you may hate??
Best I can describe it is....The stupid known issue with the rattling rear view mirror...well..it vibrates enough to make it rattle more often..could put the felt in there, but doesn't seem worth it to me
Hope that helps.

+1.
Nice write up. I agree and love the big returns for very very little vibration. Some don't even notice.

Hi,
I agree to the positive effects, but these specific engine mounts are not optimal.
- I had the same issues when mounting them. They don't fit directly and you need to file a bit. That shouldn't happen.
- The threaded rod is made of stainless steel. The OEM nut is not. I needed to lower my engine a few times and ended up with a seized up nut. I was able to repair that once, but now my mounts are sitting on my bench and I am using different ones.
- The threaded rods are not fixed to the engine mounts. You screw them in and when you losen the nut it can happen that the rods come out instead. You need to glue these rods in with some strong Loctite.
After all I would say that this is a good product, but it has some issues that need to be fixed.
