Spoiler hydraulic lift assembly failure - Options?
Spoiler hydraulic lift assembly failure - Options?
Hey guys,
I have an '07 TT and tonight when I can out to the car after work, my Techart spoiler was tilted at an angle. The one hydraulic lift was extended and the other was depressed. I assume I had triggered the spoiler to lift on my way to work, then when it went to depress only one side recoiled.
I started the car and pressed the manual lift spoiler button but it only moved slightly. I then tried some gently pressure on both sides without success. It did get down into the 30's temperature-wise today so I wasn't sure if temperature was an issue.
I called my local Porsche dealer who looked at it and essentially told me that I need a complete new spoiler hydraulic assembly as the individual parts are hard to work on when they fail. They priced out the part at around $2100! with several hours of labor on top of that.
I wasn't ready to drop that kind of money of something relatively minor and so they just reprogrammed the wing for a 'fixed-wing position' essentially disabling the elevation of the wing, either with speed or manually by pressure the button.
My question is - is the OEM replacement and the associated $2500 my only option? Or are there reasonable aftermarket or rebuilt units available?
Otherwise I may just leave it in the fixed position until I sell the car and then decide if I need to fix it.
Any other experience with this?

I had the same problem on my 07. Check out

They rebuild the two struts and the main central unit mounted in the engine lid for $700 and warranty I think for 2 years.
Do a search on 6speed "spoiler malfunction" that is how I found them. My local independent shop removed and sent the 3 pieces. It's been about 6 months and still working fine.

My warranty will cover the rear spoiler which is around 2K to get fixed depending on the problem. Best to just drive small pin in tubing and leave up. Some dealers will do that for you if you can find an honest one. These dealers are of the opinion if someone buys a porsche, then he/she should't worry about price to fix whether it is price gouging or not. To prevent such robbery at Porsche dealers, you gotta keep paying for a warranty. Atlanta's Hennessey is an honest one, but good grief you can't drive there for service work and who can stand to live/drive in Atlanta.
I had the same issue last winter, but the replacement was covered by my warranty. I would prob look at having the wing fixed in the up position rather than dropping 3-4k on it.

Mine was fixed under warranty. Dealer replaced the whole assembly. Taking off the rear wing was fun for the tech as he had to inflate a rub tube under the wing to remove it. Not a easy job. Parts alone are big money.
Dealer will replace these under warranty - I know my '08 was done by the previosu owner. This seems to be a common issue with these cars. That said, for those that like the wing to be in the "up" position at all times, why not consider the fixed system? See link below:

Yes the wing can be programmed to stay down - what the dealer called 'fixed wing position'. It took them all of 5-10 minutes. I haven't tried the manually elevation button but I assume it does nothing with the reprogramming. It gives me time to figure out what I want to do.
I emailed the Cabriolet Hydraulics and they quoted me $670 plus 15-20 for shipping. 2 day process.
I think this is the way I'm going to go - especially with the 3 year warranty.
