Sorry to revive this thread, but can this be done with a simple led bulb upgrade?
Yes..You can change any of the bulbs with LED bulbs. You will need to jump/bridge across the two wires for each bulb with a resistor (~ 50 watt 6 ohm)as indicated below. There are also bulbs available that have the IC chip built in to suppress the error message, but they are pricey!

Good luck.

Thank you, but do you know if it's an 1157 or 1156 bulb?

Should be easy to do on 997.1 but have you removed the taillight assembly from your 997.2 to even see if there is a way to remove the backup bulb? The parts schematic doesn't show any replaceable bulbs.

Yes!! Good clarification... I was referring to the non LED Tail lights on the 997.1. Assumed no need to change bulbs in the 997.2 that ARE already LED?
Good find...I'd be concerned about the length of the LED - will it fit in the housing without touching the plastic and also the heat generated. I'd hate to have a hot bulb ruin a $500 tail light.

Thanks....I agree. I think starting here and looking at similar lights he can find just what he needs?
Also two other thoughts. I am thinking an LED would not get as hot as an incandescent bulb (Def check the size and ensure it does not touch!)? And finally...Since these are reverse lights, I doubt they are on, but for a few moments?.... Unless he backs down a 3 mile driveway or something...haha.
Also found another shorter style HERE....And check Here

The orifice is pretty big and the distance to the lens is good enough, but as you said the heat on led's is minimal.

Hi DC,
Looking at the 2 links, one is the same but says from China and the other from USA with a price difference of $30 for the same led, the other is completely different set up...really not sure which to order. What are your thoughts, and thank you for your help.
