Any way to stop the rear spoiler deploying

Right now I am having a problem with the passenger side hydraulic not lifting when over 120km, (probably a leaked hydraulic ) . I have read on this forum about using the PIWIS to set the spoiler to 'fixed' and that is the plan, but right now, I can't get to the dealership for a while.

Is there a way to disable the system temporarily .... I don't mind the error (well I mind it, but I can live with it) but it just looks sad with the car driving with one side up and one side down, (plus I wonder if its putting stress on the wing). Apparently the fuse is a problem since it powers the trunk and hood, is there something else, a harness I can pull?

Not positive, but you should be able to unplug the connector. Of course with a CEL.

If you have Durametric Pro or know someone, you can deactivate it...At least I see that option in the coding section and assume it will work as you are wanting.

Good luck!

I'm not sure where that connector is though? I saw a guide on the 996 but I haven't found one for the 997. The 996 starts with removing the black plastic rear-deck, I don't think the 997 even has one ... so if anyone has a tear-down guide (for 997) it would be appreciated. Even just a picture and a arrow or something?

When I get home I will see if I can find something for you, and if so will post it.

EDIT: As I think about it, I think the wiring harness controls the 3rd brake light as well and there is an adapter you may need to disable wing and retain light?

http://www.suncoastparts.com/product//HAR997.html

Not sure it applies to turbo, but is true for 997...so thinking it is the same??

looks like you'll have to keep it under 76 mph for awhile-just let those Smart cars feel good as they fly by.

Oh the indignity of that, I think I'd rather let them look at the back of my slanted wing!

http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic...anel/?p=172636

From this link it implies that the fuse S1,A3 controls
* rear spoiler - good
* tailgate unlocking -- not great but if I need to get in there I can put the fuse back
* two-tone horn! -- does that mean the horn will not work at all? --that's kinda bad

As for the harness, in the first picture is the dead hydraulic. I see 2 wires, a larger harness one, and a small one who's source is obscured. The bigger harness goes to this point in picture 2, but it looks like it might power the fan too? Is this the harness? Finally, how does one get to the motor etc, is it behind the plastic plate in picture 3?

Does anyone know of a guide for a 997, I found guides for 996 but never a 997.

Hi..I put this Fuse Panel Layout together as a .gif. Hope this helps. Ignore my colors and notes for my car, all is correct. Seems to align with what you have listed here.

Thank you for the information. I will probably just pull the fuse this weekend and see if the horn dies with it.

Someone makes a kit that keeps it in the upright position permanently ,i've seen it here & on ebay, there like little aluminum sleeves that go around each post,i was gonna go this route when mine failed .Very expensive to replace the hydraulics.

I had found this (was planning on doing it), did you mean this one?

specifically this link...

but if you mean something else, do you have a link, or recall ... a sleeve seems very intriguing

Yep...That is the one many use on this forum , who choose to go that route. Basically replaces the Hydraulic lift with a solid shaft. Simple , good solution...but probably not the way to go, if you are planning on fixing it at some point.

I'm sure there was a thread (s) over on RList about this topic and the solution was that there was a company that could repair the tail hydraulics at a very reasonable fee.

I'd do a search over there. Good luck.

Man, I have been reading PAGE after PAGE of forum discussions on rear spoilers and DIY guide, but I can not find one for a 997 Turbo. Lots for 996, and C2-C4 997, but no turbo spoilers.

Does anyone know of one. my eyes are going squirrelly from reading articles.

I noticed something and have been driving for the last couple of days to confirm it. Once the car is off and all the warnings about the spoiler clear, if I start the car and manually lift the wing with the button it works. More importantly it holds the wing level for hours. So I think its clear its not a leak in the hydraulics etc. It only fails on the passenger side when lifting at speed (120km)? So if I start the car and set the wing up and drive that way, the spoiler error will not trip (since it will not engage since its already up). Can anyone help me diagnose that ?
