Optimizing 0-100mph and 60-130mph
Optimizing 0-100mph and 60-130mph
So in the unending quest to maximize 0-60, 0-100 and 60-130 performance as well as the fact that first gear is all but useless, I did some digging.
I thought to myself...what are the options out there using Porsche factory parts to maximize 0-60, 0-100 and 60-130mph.
So being an old redneck drag racer I figured I would look at four different categories:
1. Transmission Gearing
2. Differential Gearing
3. RPM
4. Tire Height
I think I found an almost perfect combination.....
First lets look at transmission gearing:
Turbo: 1st (3.82), 2nd (2.14), 3rd (1.48)
GT2: 1st (3.15), 2nd (1.89), 3rd (1.40)
So just for arguements sake, lets say you have a stock car with a 7000rpm red line. In first gear, the manual turbo can get to 43.1mph while the GT2 (all other things equal) can get to 52.3mph.
Next lets look at Differential Gearing:
Manual Trans'd Turbo: FT/R 3.33/3.44
Tiptronic Trans'd Turbo: FT/R 2.96/3.06
So just for arguements sake, lets say your car has a GT2 transmission in it mentioned above with a 7000rpm red line. In first gear, the manual differential can get to 52.3 mph while the Tip differential (all other things equal) can get to 58.8mph.
Now you can also adjust the rev limit and tire height. Lets assume we arent going to a GT3 top end so stay at a rev limit of 7800rpm. Also you can get a taller tire if you need more MPH. These changes are both simple changes.
So here is my thinking for the "ultimate" setup using "off the shelf" parts.
Transmission: GT2 with a 1st (3.15), 2nd (1.89), 3rd (1.40) ratio
Differential: Tiptronic with FT/R 2.96/3.06 ratios
Rev Limit: Set to 7500rpm with upgraded rods
Tire: 28" Tire actual height
With this setup I get the following numbers:
0-60 all in 1st gear: 63.0mph max in 1st (you can accomplish the 0-60 with no shift for great off the line)
0-100 with 1st and 2nd: 105.0mph max (one shift for 0-100mph)
60-130 all in 3rd gear: 141.6 max in 3rd (you can accomplish the 60-130 with no shift)
If you wanted to retain stock sized tires or R888's in 26.3" sizes, you could raise the rev limit to 7800 and still be ok and meet all the above criteris.
Am I crazy? Did I miss something?
Bottomline is GT2 Transmission, Tiptronic differentials and you have a strong setup that is just about optimized for 0-60, 0-100 and 60-130 without having to drop crazy $$ for a GT3 top end.
