Whatever it is it's nearly impossible to rev the engine that far up and back down again in such a short period of time. You're saying it went up to 9000rpm back down to 6000rpm in .001 seconds?

Great question why it came back as 1, but it's probably not because the computer tried to record an over rev. Something else happened to the car, maybe nothing at all.

 

could someone have tried to "fix" something

 

My dme had a 1 in range 5 and a 1 in range 6. Dealer said it could of been a glitch which they do sometimes. Test drove it hard engine sounded ok. Trans shifted great. I've had the car a little over a year with no issues at all.

 

After studying forums I realized this must be an error. Got the car yesterday. Thank you guys for the input.
