Werks 1 rear diffuser... 1 year later.
Werks 1 rear diffuser... 1 year later.
I wanted to give you guys an update and some real world feedback on Champions Werks 1 carbon diffuser...
So its been a year since i got my diffuser. it sits about 2-2.5 inches from the ground. I always have to be mindful about how i angle the car onto driveways or gas stations.
I park my car on a driveway and theres no way to prevent scraping. So every time i take the car out, and put it in , the diffuser drags and scrapes (about 1 inch). 2 weeks ago i was leaving a gas station, and angled the car for a left turn over a double yellow.. i saw a cop at the corner, so i quickly had to reconsider it. I ended up pulling the car straight out, which is when it happened...
the entire rear of the car sat on the diffuser. i mean the entire rear (the rear end lifted). After hearing the diffuser drag, and feeling the rear end lift, i immediately panicked and thought the worst. i thought the diffuser was destroyed. I immediately pulled over and to my surprise the diffuser was in tact, not a crack on it. Obviously the floor board was scraped, which wasnt a big deal because you cant see it.
If anyone is thinking about it and is worried about damaging it, after what i've experienced, i dont think thats physically possible.
There are a lot of accessories for our cars marketed as Carbon fiber (for example i had an Agency Power - Techart style CF front lip). and that piece of junk got destroyed shortly after installing it. Their CF is actually CFRP, carbon fiber reinforced plastic (or fiberglass), which pretty much means the mold is done in fiberglass, and CF is laid over it.
The werks 1 diffuser (and i assume their front lip) is pure carbon fiber. You can hold the entire unit with a few fingers!
Thanks champion for making a bad *** piece !
i dont have any pics of the scrapes, but the car is going on the lift in a couple of weeks so i'll update this thread then.

Good story. Top quality carbon fiber is a sight to behold. I can't see living with the miniscule clearance on a street car with SoCal's horrible roads, driveways and even parking lots, though. On a track car, most definitely!

thanks guys !!! appreciate the comments.
its been tested in the wind tunnel.
if memory serves me correctly, it removes 77 lbs of lift at the rear.
a while ago, one of the bolts got loose (there are 2 that bolt onto the chassis, and 2 that bolt onto the bumper)... at exactly 60mph there was a ticking sound (carbon hitting the metal crossmember) coming from the diffuser being loose and allowing for turbulence ... so its definitely working. in fact i run my rear sway bar at a stiffer setting because of it. once i get the TPC module the car will be out of this world.
here's another pic to give you an idea how low the diffuser sits. if the suspension isnt on stiff mode and i hit a bad dip, sparks come out lol

We have this diffuser on our car too and not only is it beautiful and gets lots of compliments but we too have put it through its paces and it's still in tact back there
I could give you specific stories but lets just leave it at the fact that the car is lowered on H&R springs and is my wife's daily driver.
Next oil change when it needs to come off again I'm going I see how close of a fit it is on my 996 GT3. Better suited on the track car !

X2 on the Champion/Werks1 stuff being the best of the best. I have the Werks1 front lip and rear diffuser...both have mild scrapes (nothing like what the OP went through) and I have to say...these parts are comprised of the highest quality carbon I have come across.
Install is piece of cake. You can actually install it just by jacking each side of the car up (if you dont have access to a lift). Two bolts at the front under the subframe cross member, and two screws under the bumper.
It will take about 20 minutes if you do it by jacking up the car one side at a time, or about 5 minutes if you have access to a lift.

Dude, Steve's a pro, give it 50 mins.
