Valet incident
I agree and I too avoid valet parking whenever feasible, but there are a few circumstances where you may not have much choice i.e., (a) no acceptable self-parking alternative exists, (b) you're on a date and your companion doesn't feel like hoofing a couple blocks, (c) you have too many bags or crap to bring in/out, (d) it's dumping rain/snow, or (e) some combo of the above.
By driving a car like that people thinks that you have tons of money and that they will get a considerable tip $$$$ so probably you disappointed the ballet guy, and I am telling you this because it happened to me in a car wash but I really didn't have much cash in hand to tip the guy and he got all pissed off, lol.

give me a break, two bucks, thats how they make there living. $20 is silly unless you are there for hours and he is watching it. but a valet if he takes care of you should get 7-10 bucks imo if they are cool and responsive
That said OP, while it was a different valet you saw out front, I'm guessing your $2 reputation preceded you (valet guys talk you know) and the handing of the keys (rather than offering to pull it up for you) + verbal assault may be they had 'incorrectly' pegged you as, well, less than generous...
Easy Drew, I think the OP mentioned that going in he only had $2 on him and he planned on giving more on exiting the establishment.

I may have been a bit harsh.. But it's actions like these that contribute to the bad Porsche owner reputation. Lessons for OP:
1) you can't plan on getting the same valet on your exit, so tip.
2) Being cheap up front gets you crap service and treatment of your car so that's not wise.
3) Never park in valet when you only have $2.

may have been harsh? actions like calling someone an idiot? of course, i call people names, all the time .... but that's because i drive a porsche. the 3 lessons you suggested are great advice , but after being called an "idiot" i doubt the op would want anymore "lessons" from you .
MOMMY HE called me a name!!

in NYC, I use parking garages and I tip at the very least $20 to keep the car near and ready for me to go when I get back. I think the valet dude at the restaurant should have gotten $5-10 for keeping it close imo
Again the only reason it was two dollars was because it's all I really had on me. It was a burger bar that I didn't expect to have a valet and I thought it would be better than nothing. Geez what an "idiot" I must be. Like I said I had more money for the guy after leaving. Also, just for an additional word. I spoke to two other people where I work who happen to be restaurant valet after hours. I mentioned the exact story I told here. They both agreed that they wouldn't have expected anything for handing me my key and getting my own car. So this is all subject to each persons own feeling.
typically don't carry much money and typically always use my debit.
