Really because all I carry typically is a debit card makes it seem like it's my dad's Porsche. Not sure how that adds up. I think your wrong I think more people carry debit or credit cards than cash. After all swipe and go in the digital world who would have thought. Your probably still using aol I'm assuming.

Credit card vs. debit card. You mentioned you specifically use a debit card. Why use debit card over credit card?

In Sweden everyone uses debit or credit cars, cash is rare, we also dont have valet parking anywhere.
When did the world become so soft?? Call a spade a spade. Someone who parks valet with $2 has made an idiotic move. I don't care if you agree or not.
The OP sounds like his intentions were good. However, this situation could have been avoided and it's too bad his actions underpaid someone in addition to getting them in trouble with management. I don't think the valet handled it well but most would have shared his feelings.

Everybody I know uses debit cards almost exclusively. Most debit cards are used just like credit cards but funds come straight from a checking/savings account, thus not putting bills on credit, plus you have the safety of not needing to write checks or carry cash. A business can't tell the difference between a credit or debit card, it looks the same to them.
We don't really have valets up here in Canada aside from hotels; but I would thing $2 is cheap.
Just because you drive a nice car people expect a bigger tip, but if that's how someone "makes their living" and they get angry about min. wage + tips... then maybe they should have went to school longer?

No offense, you and all your friends use debit card only, $2 tips and the valet having enough courage to yell at you.....sounds like you are a highschool kid! This has to be your dad's TT.

Do you guys understand what a modern debit card is? It looks just like a M/C, has the same laser logo, works EVERYWHERE M/C is accepted, you couldn't tell the difference if I handed it to you, but it debits a checking account instead of a credit card account. My bank is USAA and I have never lived in the same state much less the same city with a brick and mortar branch. BTW, I'm guessing you guys don't use your smartphones to deposit checks simply by taking a picture either?
So we know the OP is a cheapskate tipper, a tattle tail (told manager that valet dissed him), didn't get his cash allowance yet, and borrowed dad's turbo.
So a little about me. Turnabout is fair play! I don't have a debit card account, never used an ATM machine, been an AOL user for many years. And I don't even know what the poster is talking about re depositing checks w a smart phone? I do own an iPhone (flip phone broke) and did stay at a Holiday Inn just last week. Paid w a regular credit card, lol!
Actually a fun thread here. I hope the OP has a good sense of humor....

Well aware what a debit card is and well aware that the people that use them and not a credit card either;
A) Just opened their first checking account want to start using the money their parents put in
B) Have bad credit and can't get a credit card
C) Have no credit at all
D) Have credit cards maxed out and forced to use a debit
Which one are you? If none of the above, then credit cards offer tremendous value (money in your account longer), benefits (greater cash back incentives etc.) and security (does not expose your bank account to thieves) over a debit card.
Off topic, but agree with madflava about the use of credit card.
My butt has been saved many times from bad internet purchases (ebay, for example) by being able to protest/contest the charges when the seller did not hold up his end of the deal. Usually the credit card people will side with you and refund your money.
But if you pay with cash/debit card.... small claims court is prob. the only option.
As for valet, I would never valet if I can avoid it. Too many horror stories. Cars are jammed next to each other, attendants sprinting back and forth to deliver the car ASAP. No wonder why car makers build in "valet" features: keys, valet mode, ect.
