997.1 Turbo is too damn low
997.1 Turbo is too damn low
My car is too damn low. I know this isn't something you hear very often, but I am actually unhappy with how low my car is.
I have a set of Techart springs on the car now, which were installed when I bought it. I basically never use the sport suspension mode, the car gets very bouncy and just doesn't feel like the refined supercar it is supposed to be.
I recently had a run in with a pot hole and actually tore the front passenger radiator hose off. That was pretty much the last straw. The roads are great in the DFW area for the most part, but I have to be very careful not to scrape the front end even going through "good" intersections just the crown of the road can cause it to scrape if I'm not careful.
Did the original owner cut the springs down a bit to get it even lower or what? Is this normal? I have never seen/ridden in a car with the stock springs so I don't really know what the differences are. Should I just go ahead and put some stock springs on the car to get a baseline and go from there? That's kind of what I'm leaning towards at this point.
All advice/experience/etc greatly appreciated!

I've recently gone from stock to GMG springs, and while it is slightly lower I was surprised at how little difference it made when it came to driveways and speed bumps.
I don't feel the need to run in sport mode around the city, but it I do whenever on a spirited run. The springs are stiffer than stock, but I really like the additional feedback and reduction in nose diving and body roll. Feels like a sports car now. Everything else feels like a sponge compared.
The springs may have compressed over time? Take a measurement (in mm
) against a point on the body and I'll do the same, and we can compare height differences.

I drive stock set up around NYC...the roads are very bad in spots. Away from the occasional front lip scrape on an angled driveway approach no issues with the 997 being too low...OEM that is.
the cars are low however the long front overhang that makes it scrape everywhere.road goes up and wheels dont start going up yet and bumper scrapes. nothing you can do except ride around on monster truck height.

That "bouncy" feeling you get is an unfortunate characteristic of these cars. Your lowering springs on top of the stock shocks just made it worse. A proper set of street coils should make a noticeable improvement (however might not be able to completely cure) and allow you to set the ride height as well. Don't rely on just any shop to help you select your coils, make sure it is a Porsche-only shop specializing in suspensions.
Who installed the springs? A lot of street cars that are "tuned" are just slammed way too low - mostly for show. Take the same car to a proper race shop and they would raise a lot of cars that you see running around.

I had the porsche factory X-74 suspension on my '02 996C2 & it was just perfect- sold it to get current '07 997.1TT- with stock suspension the TT front overhang is worse than the X-74. Decided not to lower it -
bought the DSC unit early this year- It transformed the ride- it's perfect w/o having to lower the car on my street only 997.1TT. The stock .1 PASM unit is either too soft or too hard- DSC is great in any of the 3 modes- this was my 1st & only purchase from TPC- very glad i got it.

I run the H&R springs on my 997.1 Turbo. The ride is definitely stiffer than stock especially in sport mode. As for the height difference, you will have to pay more attention pulling into the drive way. Over all I am very happy with the feel and the car just looks so mean when lowered
It feels ok on normal mode, but I swear my Audi S5 handles better and is less bouncy than the Turbo with these springs on it in Sport mode.
