Agree 100%. silly looking front spoiler and side intakes.

i'm the complete opposite. I love the 991 back end but hate the front.

991 backside + 997 front end.

Came across this picture on a UK website and the author's words rang ever so true... "As the latest 911, it (991) is also fresher faced but, parked up side-by-side, all I can think of is how good the 997 still looks."

For me the rear of the 997 stays true to the 911. Something about 991s high straight horizontal line design separating the rear bumper from the rear decklid, coupled with the thin lights and excessive lettering, results in the loss of that distinctive 911 rear! The 997 is simply more "muscular" while the 991 is all finesse...not a bad thing but it makes me appreciate my 997 much more (bias maybe)?! Like others have said, its a "no-brainer" performance-wise but in the classic 911 looks department...different story

I agree and came to the same conclusion when I parked my 997.2 next to a 991 turbo early last summer. Prior to having them side by side, I was plotting my move to a 991tts this spring.

I'm not so hot on that idea anymore.

Prior to seeing them next to each other I would have said the 991 was overall better looking imo all day long. But seeing them side by side in the same color changed my mind. The 991 looked enormous next to the 997.2 and overall I preferred the 997.2.

Interior and technology is no contest imo- 991 all day. I also appreciate it's profile with the more laid back windshield.

How about some comments on the interior? When I test drove one I was surprised to see the reduction in interior space. As the 911 has developed the interior space has progressively been reduced.. Porsche's desire to have the 911 interior console be similar to the Panamera's has reduced the leg room. I am not big/fat but I don't think I would like that reduction in frontal area.

I find this comment odd. I am taller and really had a hard time fitting in the 997 from a leg room standpoint. The 991 may feel more cluttered due to the dash and center consule configuration, but in terms of leg room the 991s added wheelbase really helped, IMO. These are both great cars, my only complaint is that I can't have both like a lot of folks around here!

The 997 holds up well in the comparison. If they put the GT3RS spoiler on the 991 turbo it would be a winner (imho). Also, seeing the 991 in person is much more impressive than in pictures. I still love my 997 though and plan on keeping it a while longer. It's already had some plastic surgery - Cargraphic CF wing and Dectane LED lights and the love affair continues.

I like both cars for different reasons, but I truly hate clear tail lights.

I've disliked the 991 from day one
The 997 is to me the last great 911
Manual Trans and metzger and better looks with better overall feel

obviously both awesome cars. I prefer the looks of the 997 tho. BTW there is a '12 TT (black and BADA$$) at Hendrick in Charlotte.

You guys are lucky to own such beasts.

It would be interesting to post the same thread in the 991 turbo forum and see how different the opinions are!

As a 996TT owner, I have no skin in this game, but I'm with the majority here.

The 991 is just too big and the intercooler intakes too small and remind me too much of my old 986.

I was just in my local Porsche dealer yesterday and they had 5 - count 'em, 5 - 991 turbo's on the floor. My initial thoughts were just how BIG the thing is. It looks huge!

I also had the pleasure of driving one at Porsche Zentrum and have to confess I thought it a bit too clinical. Mind bogglingly fast, but not as much "fun" as my mildly tuned '02.

If ever I get rid of my 996, it'll be for a 997.2 TTS. Best looks, best interior and Metzger engine. What's not to love.
