US Spec car - How to tell?
US Spec car - How to tell?
As the title states, is there an identification within the VIN that identifies a car as "US Spec"?
I bought my 997 turbo in Stuttgart from an American (bought through the Exchange New Car Sales) but I want to make 100% sure that it is a US Spec car.
There was another guy that tried to bring a Ferrari back that he bought in Germany and he found out it was NOT US spec after paying to ship it to the US.

There is a VIN decoder thread on Rennlist under the 997 Turbo section. Put the VIN there and they will look it up, or PM me with it and I can get the build sheet to see what it says when I get home tonight.
Or you could likely call a Porsche dealer with the VIN and they can tell you if it is a US build.
Good luck.

The VIN has country of origin, but with the VIN you can get the build sheet and many times it will have something like ( *** US version) in the build sheet.

There's also some physical differences.
For example mine is US and my friend has Germany spec.
Mine had red signal lights, his has yellows, I changed mine to yellows.
Also, on the sides of where you put the license plate on the rear bumper, the U.S. Version has these defense things that pop out, the Germany one is completely flat.

I believe the odometer on a US car shows MPH ph on the outer ring and KPH on the inner ring. Canadian is reverse. I'll check mine when the snow melts off my car and let you know. My M3 is a US spec car and the odo is MPH outer and KPH inter. canadian BMWs only shows KPH analogue. You can flip the digital back and forth.

Unless they were removed (which some folks have done) then you're back to looking at other indicators.
