Question about 997
I just got a 2012 TTS and I am wondering is it normal for the car to creak (sounds like metal twisting) when going over slopes? So for instance when I go up my driveway when turning in, so the car is twisted and I go up the drive way it creaks. Same with slopes going in and out of a parking lot or garage as well. There aren't really slopes on the street.
My mechanic/dealer says this is normal. I'm wondering since the newer ones don't make this noise. So is it because the wheel base of the new ones increased that it made this go away? So conceptually it kinda makes sense to me for a car with such a stiff chassis and short wheel base that maybe something like this would happen.

Well based on your sig you have had many 997's, so I'll take your word for it lol.

Mine does it too coming out of the driveway where the chassis gets torqued - almost kind of a "bong" sound and then after its done it once the it may or may not do it one may time when going over the first bump, then that's it. Not a problem
My 997 doesn't do that, but my Lexus IS250 does and very noticeably so - it is pretty low, so i do take some serious angles in and out of driveways which may stress/torque the chassis as Sladep said above.
So then it appears to be a normal noise. Like when you turn the steering wheel full lock and the tires skip or make that loud noise when it's cold out. I'm guessing with all the new 981 and 991 because the wheel base is significantly longer, this fixed the issue.

Yes this is normal as the 911 does bend like a twig, specially those with sunroofs, stiff suspension and without a cage or roll bars. I hear is severely badly in mine!
Do yourself a favor though as sometimes these noises actually come from the suspension and in those cases 9/10 times it's because bolts/nuts have come loose. Take it to a reputable shop and have them torque down all the suspension parts (e.g., A-arms, ball joints, steering rack, etc.).
