For starters... I'm seeing a large movement of cars going 'Mafless'. In the MOST elementary terms the Bosch ME7 ecu is a load based system. Again in lay terms, load is calculated based on airflow. If your you remove the single most important sensor for load calculation you are inhibiting on the ecu's ability to do anything 100% correctly. Sure it "works" and i used "works" very loosely because the 997 has wide band fueling control and a good knock control system, but its far from correct. This could also affect subsystems that need proper load signals to function (think ABS, traction control and transmission controller)

Most will respond that "well, the car has a MAP sensor". If you hear this response form a a tuner about mafless tunes... Run, do not look back.

This is not just limited to the mafless cars. When eliminating vtg and going to a gt turbo we've seen cars pick up as much as 75hp at the same boost. Many changes like this require not just "map changes", they require "code changes" for the car to operate properly.

Its confusing but basically there's a big difference between tweaking and calibrating. There is far too much tweaking going on in this market at the moment. Tuners need full access to the ecu to tune these cars properly. In most cases (and in my opinion) commercially available tuning package do not provide the flexibility needed.
