CV Boot replacement

I took my car to the shop to inspect a popping sound coming from the front suspension. Every time I turn the wheel (sharp turn when driving slow) I can hear a loud popping sound. When I took it to the dealership they only notice that the front CV boots were torn and need to be replaced. Has anyone had this type of problem before? Also, has anyone changed out their CV boots? If so, is this a difficult job?

I've had it. They didn't find the fault until 5km later wen I had springs swapped out...

I paid my mechanic to repair it, as its a messy job and takes more time and patience than I have.

Driving back from the OPC, the CV Boot on the other side split, so repeated the process. Recommend doing both if there's any sign of wear or damage.

Have not changed the boots, but have had the issue with Cayenne and Turbo. I am assuming it is cold where you are? If so, and based on your tires, when you turn sharp when it is very cold and dry the tires/wheels will make a popping sound.

On the Cayenne I ended up changing the tires to resolve it, on the 997 Turbo, it never does it when it is warm out.

Not sure on changing the CV joints/boots. I imagine it will be like any other AWD car, and I would classify it as moderate difficulty.

Good luck,
DC

I did my boots. I expect it would be pretty similar for a 997. DIY here if interested: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...placement.html
