I just bought a 2007 997TT (pics coming soon). And as soon as I get a car I like to go through it and kind of 'make it mine'. I cleared codes, washed her up, and will do spark plugs soon.
I also cleaned the MAF sensors and while doing that took out this BMC filter installed by the PO or some tuner (EVOMS maybe, as this is an EVT775 car).
Take a look at the pics. I will be installing an OEM filter as soon as it arrives. Sometimes aftermarket is good.........but not always.
If you have rough idle, shakey starts, or car isn't running well, you might want to clean the MAF and check your air filter.
**Also for reference, some cars use a #25 Torx Security for the MAF screws, but my car actually had STAR's. Caused me a lot of headache getting those off.
Yep..Good call. Tried a BMC once, before I learned they did no good. A lot of money and the rubber turns in to a Gummy Bear after a short time ad it falls apart. Hard to believe!!
Also the fastener you have is call ed a Pentalobe (security version here)...It is like a Torx, but with 5 points instead of 6...When looking for the tool...search "Pentalobe"
Also...OEM is the best intake...No one has any evidence anywhere that any other intake performs any better...I have not seen any anyway and have searched for a long time!
This may be a stupid question, but I haven't inspected my air filter since I bought it until today. Driven 9k miles since I got it. Is it me or does this filter look pretty clean? Or should it be bounty white? Think it's time for a replacement? I don't have a dirty one to reference.

Lol, it's kind of hard to tell from the pics, but a fresh filter couldn't hurt. I think they're less than $50. But I would certainly vote for another OEM filter.

+1 about the BMC filter falling apart. Mine was worse, the whole rubber casing was deteriorated. Luckily it didn't get suck into the intake. I couldn't believed it either. Fortunately BMC did it right by sending me a free replacement. So yes, check your air filter if you have BMC.
FWIW We've tested the OEM filter back to back with the BMC filter up to and including Tial Alpha 3076 turbos and have not seen any improvements in efficiency that would result in power gains. At least at these power levels and these turbos the stock filter and intake are top notch performers.

+100 Agreed. No reason at all to replace the stock filter/intake. Plus you just risk over oiling and destroying the MAF and/or letting more contaminants into your engine...
