996TT -> 997TT owners questions for ya!

I am thinking about moving from 996TT to 997TT. For those who have been there, I have some questions.

1. What do you think about VTG turbos compared to non VTGs? (K16, K24)?

2. Is there a difference between viscous coupling AWD and electrical AWD when driving?

3. What are the top 3 things you miss about your 996TT and top 3 thins you dont miss at all?

4. Tippy vs MT on 996TT - is there the same difference with 997TT or is the tip box in 997TT better?

5. Share your feelings when you moved up, what am I in for...?

Time for another glass of Meukow VSOP to pass the time waiting for the answers and figuring out the options I want my 997TT to have...

I have just swapped from 996TT tip with flash to a 997tt manual cab no flash. 996TT with flash is faster but the power delivery on the 997TT is more sudden when the turbo hits boost. Suspension is softer & more comfortable on the 997TT and the car feels more planted (have not pushed it to the limit thought). 997tt has the better exhaust note although that may be the cab, and there is no clatter when starting cold like the 996TT (emissions system). I also find the 997tt steering to be tighter although that could be that my new car is only 18K miles versus 75K miles on my 996TT.

Both cars are great although the 997tt definitely feels more modern.

I went from a 520WHP 996TT to a Stock 997TT, then added AWE Exhaust and Protomotive tune.

The 996TT was my first Porsche, so there is that, but other than that, there is nothing better about the 996. 997 feels a lot more balanced, power delivery is way better. As someone said above, it feels more planted, I dont get the constant "am i about to die feeling" in a turn. I was always aware and afraid that the *** end was going to let go in the 996, never have that feeling in the 997. Interior is a million times better and quieter.

996TT to 997TT

In my opinion I think you'll love the upgrade. I went from about a 585HP 996TT to a stock 997.1 TT. Obviously the power wasn't there yet but the car is a much smoother, more refined car. My initial feeling was they took the 996TT and made it better. The 996TT is a much louder car (which I liked) while the 997TT is very quiet but the right exhaust will take care of that.
There's plenty to choose from for your sound tone and level.
I recently upgraded to an IPD plenum, GMG WC-GT Exhaust, K&N Air Filter & H&R Springs. I'm going to go with a GIAC tune for the ECU and TCU.
Once I tune I should be as fast if not faster than my 996TT but a without the issues you may come across when upgrading a 996TT. You don't have to do as much to a 997TT to get great power increases. If you can find a clean one I would jump on it asap!!

Why do you have to choose??

Just sold the red one on the right for a decent price (much less depreciation that I had with my previous BMW M5). I have another spot in the garage for a blue Macan S (diesel turbo) however it won't be here until September so won't be able to show a 3 Porsche garage! Although the 996TT is a great car - the 997 is an all round better car (steering and handling being better the surprising difference for me). My red 996TT has a UMW tune + a kenwood satnav/dvd/tuner, for the silver 997T cab I'll be doing another UMW tune (this time dialled in based on datalog results), the TPC DSC PASM upgrade (normal PASM is comfortable but the car floats, sports PASM handles better but bounces everywhere - the DSC I hope will give me the best of both worlds) and the Dension Bluetooth MOST add-on. I won't be bothering with exhaust - I do think the exhaust on the 997TT sounds better especially when flooring it although that could be the less soundproofing from the cab.

997 TT is more efficient at power delivery than the 996 TT.

Minor mods on a 997Tt will get you an easy 600 whp... a bit tougher on a 996TT

997 has more modern comforts.

I can do wheelies in my RWD 996 TT.. it appears Mark in his 997 TT cannot = win for me

You asked about the tip. 997 is much better, holds boost through shifts.
