Yea, I understand that and that makes a lot of sense. I was just wondering if the report can tell the difference between the two. For instance, if it showed which type of rev it was.

Oh sorry, no it simply states how many ignitions there were in a given rpm range. There are several guys i've seen on the forums over the years that have 4, 5 and even a few 6's and none of them have had any problems with their engines.

So really, its a little misleading due to the fact we know the latter of the two would be worse.

Yea and the whole overrev thing has been blown way out of proportion. But going back to your original comment, cars with a tune do seem to record more, I cant remember why but ive seen posts about it. Do you know offhand??

Everyone I have talked to said its because a tune naturally raises the rev limiter thus causing more data to be recorded as "overrev". The computer does not know the limiter was raised.......well that part of the computer I guess.

Thanks guys for the info. It is much appreciated. What was the issue with the coolant hose one of you mentioned?
Ya the motors seem to be very strong and none problematic overall. Besides the beauty of the car that's a huge reason on like them. I just want to enjoy driving when I'm not working (which is all the time anyway but I try to have some play time), or working on my toys every second and not driving them.

Here is one more question for you guys. What is your insurance like? I haven't talked to my insurance guy yet about getting one but honestly from a quick search I think it's cheaper to insure this than my sti sadly. I'm a younger guys (26) but I have a clean record and bundle all my insurance so my rates are fairly cheap overall.

I'm going to have to keep reading up on the general maintenence stuff on them here when I have extra time. It's my busy time on the year right now so time is limited

Wow that is nothing. I have fairly good insurance and I pay 520 a month for stuff but my policy covers a lot. 3 vehicles full coverage, 1 liability, boat insurance, blanket vehicle insurance that covers me up to a million on anything I'm in, product liability insurance for 2 million for all the parts I make and cars and equipment I build on my time off, and life insurance.

I think my rate will go some.

On the over rev deal now I get that now seeing the chart.

What is the oem Rev limiter set at on these?

My 08 went from a $77K car to a $96K in less then a year.

DMV Taxes and Reg - $5,000

Mods:
Rims (dealer) - $1,900
Front Plate Mount - $130
Disable TPMS (dealer) - $40

Regular Maintenance:
Tires (dealer) - $1,500
Front Brakes (shop) - $1000
Bake Fluid Change (shop) - $160
Oil & Filter Change (dealer) - $200
Oil & Filter Change (dealer) - $200

Failures:
Water pump (dealer) - $1,405.54
Coolant pipe failed - had to pull motor to fix (shop) - $3,000
Broken Exhaust Stud (dealer) - $255

While the motor was out:
Install Sharkwerks Coolant Pipes and pinned 7 other coolant pipes (shop) - $1,555
Sachs Stage 2.5 clutch with resurfaced flywheel (shop) - $2,500

* most of those prices don't include tax
** all work done by Porsche Dealer (dealer) or Imola, a local performance shop (shop)

The coolant issues are the biggest worry on these cars. Water pump died on mine, then a random coolant hose/pipe failed (not the common ones), and while that was getting fixed and the coolant pipes with known issues were being pinned it was found that one was already backing out so good thing I did that.

Next issue to be added to that list is a door latch because the micro switch went bad and the window doesn't raise and lower properly when opening the door. That will be $200 plus labor (which I'll probably do myself)

If you're going to mod, the stock clutch won't hold any additional power in higher gears.

In theory my car is ready for a tune, but if it has one more major issue, I'm selling it.

In fact if someone showed up and offered me $85K right now I'd sell it in a heart beat.

Thanks for the info. Yes I will have extras into mine very quickly, mostly estetic for the first year. I will put a cobb accessport, build a exhaust, and add a high flown filter year one. Besides that's it's wheels and tire, springs, sway bars, and exterior stuff.

Looks like I will have to fix this coolant issue right away as well. I do have a full race shop at home with just about anything a guy needs to do 99% of stuff so beside specially porsche tools or electric issues I should be able to do all my own work

As for a clutch, does anyone run a clutch master twin disk? I'm a big fan of clutch master and run them is just about every car I've built or help build. It's retail 4500 bucks but I know I can get it for much less.

What do you guys think about this car. It's higher miles than I'd like but it already has all the stuff I was going to add. Save me 15k+ right off the bat with a then a motor build down the road (I was going to do this anyway)

I take to the guy on the phone and he was very informative and car is in 100% perfect mechanical condition and interoir and exterior are 9/10.

I may jump on it tomorrow. Let me know what you think.
