Manual Shifter **** Cap

I have a manual transmission and the metal shifter **** cap came loose. The shifter is wood and the cap is a silver with 6-speed pattern.

I can only find articles on how to replace entire shifter but I am simply looking for best solution to get cap from falling out constantly. It looks like cap has teeth that hold it in place and over time for some reason they no longer hold. Cap does not appear damaged in any way.

Any ideas? Thank you

Yep - or perhaps wrapping some electrical tape around the clips to make for a much more snug fit for a less permanent solution.

Thank you - I am looking for something less permanent than epoxy in case for some reason I ever need to take it off. I'll try the tape.

Anyone know if you can buy a new cap?

not necessarily, if you had to remove the shift boot or the center console you may need to take it off to access the screws holding that in place...

ok you had me wondering so i took mine apart. the 2 screws are what hold the chrome front piece on. the white square is what the shifter shaft slides up into. and appears to have a slip tight fit
my cap has 3 teeth on it. looks like yours has 1 broken off

sorry - my explanation was likely not the best - but yeah, that's the only drawback to permanently gluing it.

i didn't realize the **** was basically hollow inside. i was thinking the cap was simply tapped onto a round **** top. glueing wouldn't work in this instance. seeing he has a tab broken off in the last pic its likely it won't stay attached . i think theres a few for sale on the forum

Mine has three teeth, somehow they don't have the same spring so it doesn't stay locked in any more.

That's a bad picture it looks like there is only two but there are in fact three tabs they just don't have the same level of spring anymore to lock in
