997.1 Bose Impedance for Aftermarket Amp (which to run in series?)
997.1 Bose Impedance for Aftermarket Amp (which to run in series?)
Does anyone know the proper way to wire in an aftermarket amp to replace the bose amp?
I am replacing the head unit and putting in a 2 or 4 or 5 channel amplifier in place of the factory bose amp.
From what I gather, all the speakers are 2 ohm, but run in parallel at 1 ohm. The goal is to run them in series at 4 ohm and use a compact amp to drive them.
I have the pin outs / colors for the bose factory amp and just wanted to get some input on how to wire everything in.
I do not have definitive information, but I'm assuming all the bose speakers (dash L/R, Door Sub L/R, Rear L/R) are all 2 ohm. This would normally take 6 channels on a 2 ohm stable amplifier, but since I'm running a 4 channel 4 ohm stable amplifier, I assume I'd only be using 3 of the 4 channels.
Dash speakers in series - Channel 1
Door speakers in series - Channel 2
Rear speakers in series - Channel 3
Not used - Channel 4
Alternatively I could go with a 2 channel amplifier and use the built in amp of the head unit to drive the rear speakers in series.
Thoughts?
I've been using this site, but it doesn't really tell me, other than the rears, if I should be running the dash and door stuff in series.

Thanks!

I did run the factory speaker on a 6 channel amp (2 ohm) and it worked. www.gladen.com. The old analog power monster! 1 ohm stable !!!
But...
The Bose amp is not the problem. The speakers are not as good at all. The installed Bose will drive the speaker to the limit anyway, so again you proberly will hear the bad sound off the speakers only a little bit louder. Also I had a whine on the speakers even with a direct ground and power wireing. After all these trouble I deceided to go for the MOST-HUR. No problems, no whine, everthings works good. But...
I am still using here in germany FM radio stations, and all my testet Japanese HU where not able to get advantage of the old versions of diversity build in antennas. Pioneer DA-120 where almost ok.
There is also an interesting Focal Speaker replacement threat.
Long story short. Go for a Dension, hate the ugly PCM 2.1 and like the watercooled twin turbos.
My short advice. Your speaker impedance investigation is correct.

Thanks for the input. I'm in between running amps + speakers or doing a NAV TV unit. The NAV-TV can be had for $350-500, but amp/speakers, etc is all around $700, more if I do a DSP and big sub, etc.
NAV-TV is the easy fix, i suppose.
