I sold my .1 MT and got myself into a .2 PDK. The PDK is just so much more efficient. Its more simple to get it to a 9 sec car like Longboarder has done in his car. Chasing Huge power in a .1 MT might be fast from a roll but its nowhere near as safe for road racing. When you MOD the hell out of the .1 you devalue its resale. A few gentle mods on a .2 can be put back to stock easy and its just so damn fast on the street with Launch control and sticky tires. The Value of the .1 MT will be very high in 10 years if you keep it bog standard but it is just so hard to keep it stock when you cannot keep up with a PDK.

Is it true that the turbos on a 2011-2012 Turbo S are a little bigger than the 991.1 Turbo S cars? Also if you plan to do the following mods

tune/exhaust/intercoolers/68mm vtg upgrade would the cars then be equal in terms of mods? Exactly the same set up just different body style and pdk tuning? I assume the 991 turbos have a little faster 0-60 times.

I was told the 2010-2013 Turbo and Turbo S have stock turbos that are 62.5mm, where the 991.1 Turbo and Turbo S have turbos that are 56mm.

I have 68's in my 991 and it will get meth and R888 tires to see if it can keep up with my stock turbo 997.2. But I doubt it unless it's a prepped surface like a dragstrip. On runway events, no 991.1 or 991.2 can keep up with it on equal tires. The Stage 3 (tune, intercoolers, exhaust, race gas, R888s) 991.2 that I raced in the vid below (at the 6:30 mark) is the perfect example - dead even clean launch. The 991.2 did a 10.1 @ 136 the weekend after our race. As you can see the 997.2 runs away from it.

That is what I have always noticed. Why is that you think? What makes the 997.2 turbo S faster than the 991 turbo s? I heard the 991.2 turbo s is quite a bit faster than the 991.1 and has larger turbos as well.

My only guess is that it's lighter so gets out of the hole quicker. But with the larger fuel system the 991.1 and 991.2 has more top end potential.

The turbines are also larger which is pretty crucial.

Are the 991.2 turbines bigger than the 997.2? Also are they all equal after a shop like yours does the 68mm vtg upgrade?

The 99.2 turbine is not larger (housing or wheel) but Porsche has changed the BV50 VTG turbine material and center section for the first time. Even the exhaust valves are Inconel on the .2 S. Mainly form heat build up with the anti-lag/boost response feature. The compressor wheel is completely different in that you cannot even put in any compressor wheel that exists. We have been working wit TiAL since last year on this and should have an upgrade this month or next! Completely re-engineered for the 991.2 only.

On the earlier stuff you can run the same exact upgrade. The turbine housing A/R on the 997.2 is larger giving it more flow but you are still dealing with the same turbone wheel. So with out recipe advancements we do just fine even with the smaller A/R in the 991. A few have tried fabricating the 997.2 Turbine on the 991 but I have not seen them go faster.

Comments like these make me smile ear to ear as I have a 2011 TTS. Sometimes I think I should have not splurged and then I get on the forum and read this stuff! Not trying to bad mouth 991s or any other car for that matter, just glad to see confirmation regarding the 997.2s abilities.

I'm not sure why longboarder said his "stock" 997.2 because it's definitely not stock. I think he meant his 997.2 turbo with the same mods?

When he says "stock turbo 997.2", he is referring to the turbos being stock, not the car.

Yeah I have the factory original turbos on the car now with 43,000 hard miles pushing 30psi mid range...so these are also very reliable turbos.
