Opinion on the AMS intercooler upgrade.
I realize I'm a bit late on responding here but I'll offer my opinion in case anyone's on the fence. In Miami, which has the same hot and humid climate as Puerto Rico, the stock intercoolers are merely slight temperature reducers. The guys on the forum can correct me if I'm wrong but, I remember after first tuning with the Cobb and subsequently logging with a stage 1 93 tune before switching to the AMS coolers, it was unnerving to see the IAT's shoot up on one or two pulls, in November! With a tune, I'd say your IAT's will be north of 160 after a few pulls, maybe even higher, 180 IIRC. Now, on the highways, temps stay on the average 7 degrees above ambient, in city traffic avg 20 degrees above ambient. If you are in bumper to bumper traffic, the temp from the motor starts to heat soak the IAT's but, you can see on the accessport how quickly the Alpha coolers reduce the temps right back to between 7-20 as soon as you get some fresh air moving through the air filters and the intercoolers themselves. Since then, I also DIY'd Cobb ID 1300 injectors, plugs, coils, air n fuel filters etc, and on the one or two days this past winter that the temps dropped down to high 50's, low 60's for Miami's "winter", on Cobb's e85 stage 3 tune...all is right with world as it's going by in blur. Credit to the main group of guys on this forum sharing their experience, they know how to make these cars really move out.
Get a good set of T-Bolt clamps, the worm drive clamps that come with the kit work but cut into the hoses from overtightening. Sambo is right, AMS did make some updates to the kit and AMS's customer service was great. I called them in Illinois, they answered, and mailed out the updated hoses for factory turbos the same day. Also, got my Sachs 2.5 from Sambo and his customer service and prices are also the best in the biz.

Isn't the ETS 16-row the top dog in the under 750 hp category?

And I think they're generally under $1800,.. and use stock hoses.

Here is my personal testimony on the ETS vs 997.2. starting from post 76:

Also remember that 997.2 guys UPGRADE their intercoolers for a reason. GIAC has a separate tune that gives the 997.2 a big jump in power ONLY after they upgrade their intercoolers and even COBBS pro tuners do the same FOR A REASON, as in safe log tuning reasons that give more timing (or less timing pull), more boost etc. Again the argument is even the more so on pump and less on E85 because of the cooling effect.
THE UPGRADED Coolers tune with GIAC (longboarder can chime in as well as COBB tune cars) net over 3-4mph in the quarter and more in the 1/2!

I've. Been running ams coolers for some time now and have at least 6 track days on them../ coolers are no joke and I'm surprised that even after 15 minutes my temps are very close if not lower then outside air..my experience on a dyno with little air movement had great results... we hot drove the dyno for 3...1st -4th gear pulls and only saw a loses of 19hp.. not bad for a car just sitting there with minimal air movement.. I rember reading a post on the new 991 turbo and by the 2nd run it was almost down 30 hp... you get what you pay for.. don't forget about upgrades on hoses...
