AWE 997.2TT RSR Style Exhaust - Review
Before expressing my thoughts on the exhaust system itself, I want to start off by saying what an absolute pleasure it was dealing with AWE throughout the process. They are nothing short of top notch, just like the quality of their products. Special shout out to Josh Davis - I highly recommend reaching out to him about any AWE product you may be considering. Josh is a class act.
On to the good stuff… The moment you open the box, it’s evident that these guys are all about quality and attention to detail. The packaging is tight and neatly packed, and the hardware is totally flawless. When looking at this setup next to the Fabspeed Supersport 70mm system I was running prior, the difference in tubing diameter is definitely noticeable to the eye. One of the main reasons I went for the RSR style system instead of the quad tips is because it allows for the 3” tubing to be used the entire length of the exhaust. Not to mention it looks badass IMO.
Regarding the sound, all I can say is wow. Absolutely wow. A major concern for all of us when considering aftermarket exhausts is always cabin drone. There is ZERO, I repeat ZERO drone (to be fair, I didn’t experience any drone with the Fabspeed system either). Personally I’ve never been a huge fan of the decatted/straight piped sound as I prefer something that sounds more fine tuned if you will, which is exactly how I would describe the AWE system. I’ve found it to be more throaty (a little like PSE) on the lower end of the RPM range than my Fabspeed, and mid range and up top she absolutely screams. This is how the car should sound from the factory. No video is going to do it proper justice. I’ve only been out on a few weekend cruises since install, but on every single one there have been multiple occasions where people have rolled down their window to tell me how sweet it sounds from the next lane over. Another thing I need to mention is turbo spool. It is much more noticeable than before, something that I guess can be attributed to the wider diameter tubing. The car just feels freer flowing. One thing I can say for sure, AWE must have spent hours upon hours developing this system to get it to sound this way. The weather in NY has started to warm up a bit, which is good seeing as it would have to be freezing for me to drive around with the windows up...
Some pictures of the hardware and install (GT2 skirts were adding during the visit as well). Videos to come this weekend. Enjoy.
