Memory Saver when Swapping Battery 20111 TTS

I swapped the battery on my brothers 911 TTS. The factory Battery, despite being on a maintainer over the winter gave up, and was just dead when he went to get it out of storage. Porsche roadside assistance could not get the car stated with a jump pack or cables. They wanted to flat bed it to the dealer but many factors like a steep driveway, the angle the car was in the garage and other obstacles made rolling it our without power a PITA.

I picked up a Porsche "approved" interstate battery. The dealer had installed this in my car at my 5 year service so I just picked one up at interstate and swapped it out and the car started right up with out issue.

All the PAMs and other lights reset after a 3-5 mile drive off the parkway. For some reason you need to drive straight, as well as make a series of left and right turns to retrain the system or reset it. I have heard both terms used both on the internet and at the dealer. The window auto up, auto down and the slight jump down on opening needed to be rest by the dealer. It never re learned and the seat memory needed to be reset.

A buddy of mine asked if I would swap his battery as its 4+ years old this weekend. I told him what to buy but explained the window bit.

I wanted to know if there is a memory saver that anyone here has used on these cars to keep the various settings intact when disconnecting or swapping the battery?

I have never used one of these, and I do not want to damage anything or leave him with a window problem. Does it just plug into the OBD port?

The battery trickle charger will not work for this use because the unit only responds when it senses some power on the other end. Once the battery is removed it will shut off. (At least my Porsche branded C-tek unit operates this way)

Thanks

I've done a Mercedes and my 997 using the Ctek and also an old school maintainer from orieleys with the battery post/alligator clips...no issues

The windows didn't forget the auto up or jump down on opening.

Tremelune is infamous around these parts
Some battery charges Some battery charges
have a "Supply" mode that just provides power. Hook one up to the terminals and leave them connected while there is no battery in the car, and (unless it draws more power than the supply can handle) it won't even know a battery was removed.

I left my Battery Tender with cigarette lighter adapter plugged in when I replaced the battery with no memory loss.

That's an interesting idea, I should try that the next time I need a battery . . . Thanks! KH
