I think many of us on the sidelines are wondering how on earth this happened in the first place. Like ^^^^^^ said, it wasn't a problem of trying to get too much power from available octane or anything like that. It looks like a workmanship issue which should NEVER have happened imho. Is it possibly an installation issue? One of the problems with having multiple cooks involved in the recipe is that it's sometimes hard to figure out who is responsible for the stew tasting like poo. No offence intended AT ALL VR6tee but is it possible that there was a mistake in installation? I obviously know nothing about big hp builds and that's why I'm asking these questions, because it really is disturbing to think that this could happen at this level of experience from the parties involved. Sure, mistakes happen but if I'm understanding correctly, this isn't a little mistake...

From what the OP has posted, most importantly the confirmation post of the head issues and the pictures in the original post, including that scarring on the IM, I am pretty sure that assembly had nothing to do with it.

Assembly would not:

1. Affect valve seals & hats, they are already done as part of the head work
2. Affect clearances and bend valves, you can only torq down the heads to their spec
3. Create scarring inside the head (although I guess he could have sucked some shrapnel in the engine to rip up the head, but that would be the least of his problems)

So, again in my opinion, there is nothing that assembly would have done to cause these issues.

There was no issue with assembly other than the wrong valve lash caps being used. These were the caps that were included with the heads. In fact, the new builder said the assembly was very impressive for a non-porsche shop
There was Zero detonation if you look at the pistons which is pretty awesome for the power the car was making.

I am putting the mistakes made down as an EvoMS transition, not as a sign of John's typical work.

At least it's getting sorted now, chalk it up to an anomaly. Good luck w/ the new build !

I know almost everyone in this thread. You are all good guys and would get along talking in person! As J stated t looks like a transition thing and is NOT typical of John at all. I think it's awesome that he is on it and I know he will get you back up and running tip tip. FINALLY!

Good luck J and feel free to reach out if I can do anything at all to help you or John.

What a mess!! So sorry for your troubles VR6 and glad to see it being resolved. REP + respect for sharing your problem.

I never worked with JB before, but his work speaks for itself accross several platforms, but even the best have bad days and do mistakes, the fact people jumped on the OP and (must've been something you did) attitude is ridiculous and borderline childish.

I mean, even after showing detailed pictures of the horrible head job (for 8K $ + cores + seven months) people still wanted to hear the other side!!! As if anything the OP did to those heads caused this disaster to come about!! Shameful people! Just say its not characteristic of JB's workmanship and he will probably do you right once he can.

I couldn't of said it better myself!

This is the reason for forums, especially when a mature, well respected member posts a non bashing factual thread. Guaranteed the OP was mindful of keeping the shops testimony intact if this had been resolved in a timely manner.

Thanks

Bobby Ali
