My 2011 Turbo S Carbon center console was cracked. I have noticed this is quite common on all 996 and 997 models. Instead of forking over more than 2500 for a new one, I decided to repair. Below is how I did it.
Tools you will need.
1. Various sandpaper from 100-3000 griit
2. Grinder
3. Sander
4. Rubbing Alcohol
5. Lint free cloth.
6. Lots of clamps
7. Angle Iron piece
8. Resin
9. Loctite EA11C poxy.
I used loctite EA11c in black. I wanted a flexible, strong, up resistant epoxy that is resistant to heat. I wanted to grind down first to relieve any stress in the resin. The thinner the factory resin, the better. I epoxied down any lifted areas first and used lots of clamps.
Once all the structural areas are repaired, time to sand a little. Feather the areas of the crack creating a valley for the resin. Clean the area with alcohol. Make sure you DO NOT TOUCH the carbon fabric. If you disturb the carbon, it will show in the final finish.
Next, I prepared resin. I used stuff from Amazon which was a 2 part resin. I mixed equal amounts of A and B together and poured over the crack carefully. Avoid getting it on good areas of the console as this will create more work for you. This is after three coats of resin. You have to make sure each coat is dry.
Below is after sanding down the high spots with 100 grit. I have a festool sanding system with vacuum which was a lifesaver. Made sanding the console quick and clean.
Below is after going through several stages of sandpaper. I dry sanded up to 1000 grit and started wet sanding with water from 1200 to 3000 grit. I still need to apply a coat of polish and remove any fine scratches. IF you look carefully, you can still barely see the kink in the carbon fabric but the crack is gone.
