I do not know why, but I am bummed out that the tip is faster than the standard tran. If I was ever to trade out mu 996tt I would not know which trans. to buy.I guess it is the future of all cars, but why does it have to be so much faster, even though it adds 300lbs.?

It's all in the technology.

Tip may be faster but manual will always be more fun.

Well, maybe not always.

Keep in mind that even in previous versions, even though the manual was faster, 95% of drivers using stick were probably slower than the Tiptronic.

Tip adds 300 lbs? No way. That would make it considerably slower around a track no?

Most importantly, you lose the driving enjoyment. There's nothing better than slamming a 6 speed from 2nd to 3rd wide open swinging around a bend full throttle with the chirp of the tires. Mmmmm.....

If it was a daily driver, I'd consider it, maybe.

I don't carry a stopwatch with me when I drive - sometimes I have to remind myself of that when reading specs...........

I don't think that a torque converter automatic is the future of all cars as you say. In fact i would guess that this auto will be dropped in a couple of years when Porsche releases its PDK gearbox.

Yup exactly.. I guess they are still perfecting and testing it, although damm they should have released it as an option for 997TT and GT3, would have been amazing. I still love my manual tranny's

Had a carrera tip and didnt like it except in traffic. Loved the TT 6 speed. Wish the CS would have came in 6 speed but I guess F1 (or tip for p-cars) is the wave of the future.

Why be bummed out? This is how it is w/ most sports cars. VERY VERY FEW people can shift as fast as today's automatic transmissions.

It's a stupid thing to be bummed out about. 6 speed will always be more fun for most people.

I personally love working the clutch. Not having the capability of dumping the clutch around a corner and steering with the *** end out is no fun. It's no wonder I'm one ticket shy of losing my license. All jokes aside I'm sure with the advancement of technology I too will wind up with a tip in the future.

I cant believe i'm the 1st to mention this but here goes...

0-60 may be faster in the tip, but whats the 1/2 mile?

the sprint to 60 is highly dependent on gearing.

0-60 can be such a meaningless number - yet as always, the general american public seems to put great stock in this number.

It seems that porsche is taking classes from mercedes' marketing department. Smart of them too! as the real drivers will steer even clearer of Miss Piggy and go for a GT3.

Ah well...there's always chevy to keep it real (did i just say that???)
