Well, maybe not always.
Keep in mind that even in previous versions, even though the manual was faster, 95% of drivers using stick were probably slower than the Tiptronic.

i was always faster in 996 TT tip, it's very hard to be as quick w/ stick.
tyson still has your gt3....
and your school is kicking *** on the LAX field this year 10-0.. saw some high lights they are hot. [Cornell '76... we are 6-1]
If you can't rev the engine in a Tip at will, whenever, wherever, why get it. 1/2 the thrill of driving these cars is the ability to message the engine. I"ll presume paddle shifters, SMG etc., etc. have the same limitations. Sanitized sports cars.
Leave me with the manual for TOTAL control and appreciation of fine engineering.
Thnx

I have tip in my previous Boxster and Tip S in my CT, I think they both suck. I think the whole Tip thing sucks. I don't know how its any different in the 997TT, but I think it react very slowly. Maybe they changed the aggressiveness of the tip.
I would get PDK if it were available, but I would say that a 6 speed 997TT is the way to go.
I think the 0-60mph times from Porsche isn't very accurate as they don't do clutch slips or dumps. So wait till a magazine company gets a 997TT and do the real aggressive tests, I bet the 6 speed will be much faster than the TIP. I'm pretty sure Porsche was doing those granny launches when it compared it to the Tip.
I can agree that it could be smart marketing making consumers buy Tips to make more profit. Come on look at the Cayman S, why in the freaking world does it cost more than the Boxster S when the roadster has more engineering into it than a coupe??!?!? WTF! First time in Porsche History that a coupe is more expensive than a Roadster version! It's all marketing and money these days for Porsche.

It's also not the fact they shift faster but the deliver the power from the get go more consistently so the times are more accurate. After 60, I bet the manuals times are better considering Torque converters are still robbing power these days and the margins of acceleration are longer.
