2009 Cayenne Turbo S
2009 Cayenne Turbo S
New here, first post, wish it was a happier one. Just bought my first Porsche - 2009 Cayenne Turbo S, new from dealer 5 miles on odometer. Great deal.

So I take delivery and begin the 2 mile drive home, beep - oil pressure sensor failure light comes on. Call dealer "seen that simple flash"
Back to dealer next day, they drive same light, flash computer, drive same light. By the way they smelt coolant and changed coolant housing while they were at, (to their credit). Keep car another day and inform me needs new oil pump, no part in US have to find one in Germany, not sure when part will arrive and then it does 2-3 days to replace pump. So to finish my vent have owned CTS for 4 days, 3 at dealer and 1 at my home with at least another week at dealer maybe more. I am so bummed out by all this
feel violated as techs poke away at my brand new $100k+ vehicle with <50 miles on it. How concerned should I be or am I overreacting and all will be well soon? By far the most I ever spent on a vehicle and never expected this. Have nightmares that after 1-2 weeks in shop this fix fails and I am back at square one.
Thanks in advance.

Consult a lemon attorney or look into your local laws so you know where you stand with your state. Make sure you keep this info in mind as they offer you choices etc. I would make them buy it back if it were me but your power to do that depends on the local laws
Wow, sorry to hear. Could just be a fluke. Had an E-Class that needed a few lifters and a cam replaced after about 300 miles. I would try to get them to buy it back and get you a new one, but that is probably a longshot.
Anything can have an issue when brand new so I wouldn't worry about that in general. However, an oil pump would concern me as that would make me wonder if he was properly lubricated during those initial miles. Find out the exact part being replaced and talk with a senior mechanic at another dealership or an independent. If they say it could have compromised proper lubrication make them buy it back.
Asked that exact question and was told no loss of lubrication, they test drove the car several times and I was told they are replacing the oil pump, don't have a part number but can ask on Monday. Hope your first thought is right I love the vehicle just worried that once s... starts it may never stop. Happy to be wrong. Thanks for a bit of good news.
Can't comment on your specific situation, but I can tell you that I have an '09 Turbo S that I have had for 14 month, 15m miles and no trouble at all except a minor issue with the door locks.

Keep your documentation for everything and keep your local lemon laws in mind. Here in MD, I think it's 3 tries or 30days.
If you lost oil pressure, lubrication to not only the engine, but the turbos, was diminished. The mechanics are blowing smoke up your *** if they're telling you an oil pump failure does not reduce lubrication. Did it cause any damage? Time will tell. If they won't buy-back, have them throw in an extended warranty (if you keep cars long enough for it to matter).
FWIW, I had an oil pump failure in a motor I built. I dropped the pan, replaced the pump, and the motor has been going strong through 2 other owners (10yrs now) and more nitrous than I can imagine.

Great thanks. i test drove an '09 S a couple of weeks ago and the sales guy said he could go almost 5K off LOL.
somewhere in the books that they give you provide a number for the state you live in, and the support number to call. porsche says they'd fix/buy back the car if you got it from the dealer defective or something like that. i read it back over the summer but i may be mistaken or porsche has new rules.
Update 2009 Cayenne Turbo S
Got CTS back on Wed. all seems to be well, no lights. Had my own independent expert check vehicle while it was at dealer (never any lubrication loss). General consensus is that sitting idle for x number of months at dealer fouled an oil sensor and that caused light to come on. Thanks to all that posted with ideas, now onto the task at hand enjoying this beast. Certainly is frustrating when new vehicle has problem but seems to have worked out fine and got a great deal on new 09. Thanks again.
