Metal Y pipe

Hello all, '12 Turbo S here. just finished installing do88 full intercooler kit with new inlet pipes, y pipe and plenum. I was on the fence between do88 and AMS kits. After I finished, went for a spin to check everything out, ie leaks, etc. After a half hour cruise with a few occasional hard pulls, came back and everything is good. First thing I noticed is the Y pipe is HOT to the touch! My reasoning is this should be made of carbon fiber, silicone, plastic or something else but not metal. This doesn't seem logical to me. I feel like this gets heat soaked just from the close proximity to the engine. Am I missing something?
