It kind of amazes me that almost 99% of the time my "dealer tells me something" it gets shot down in flames. It is great to have these forums otherwise we would all be stumbling around in the dark. It does beg the question though...from where do our dealers get their "information"?

As a sidenote though he did say you will find flat blacks with clearcoat on them but that has been applied by the dealer (thank God for those trustworthy, reliable dealers!) or the customers themselves...yeah I know, back to that "info from the dealer" again .

It really is incredible how much bad information we get from dealers...The worst part is occassionally they know something...what happens is they blend in what they know with what they don't know seamlessly...I think they just have to keep talking....

Unfortunately the original owner had not looked after it and it needed to be wet-sanded, but you can only do that so often before the paint is gone.
Just an FYI...all modern cars have clearcoat. If in doubt, take a mild polish on a microfiber or soft terry cloth and rub a small inconspicuous area. If you see pint, no clearcoat. As for color, Basalt. The metallic flecks will hide small imperfections and it simply shows better when the light hits. Yes, solid black looks beautiful, but it's a real chore to have it swirl or hologram free. MHO.

The dealer doesn't paint clearcoat on your car. ALL cars come with clearcoat from the factory. And as for paint care, today's paints are designed to take abuse. Even if you don't wax your car for 2-3 years, a professional detailer, or you, can safely remove the dead paint without color sanding, and bring it back to life. Don't believe everything the dealer tells you. Porsche paints are inherently soft, therefore, need extra care. But they do last a very long time and we've brought back some cars that looked like someone took a brillo pad to the finish. Good pain is forgiving to some extent.

I've got to justify the 90K once in a while.
