I'd get 6 speed as well, about the 1/2 sec slower for 6 speed than tip that I would like to see, ( The drivers that use as comparison in magazines don't know what speed shifting is) yes the tip is technically an automatic transmission and it does accelerate faster, but I also believe that if you can speed shift fast enough you won't have a problem keeping up same as a tip tranny. Granted, yes if you are going to daily drive it in traffic you might want to consider tip however, in my personal experience there is nothing more exciting that going through the gears.

I would never get a tip just because I believe you have to feel the performance by YOU driving the car. ( Meaning shifting )

I swore I'd never own anything other than a manual transmission, but the traffic in Dallas could make a liar out of me. You'll lament the lag as the perfect 997TT-sized hole opens for that split second then closes before the tranny figures out what gear it wants. But the 0-40-0 50 times every mile would be easier in a Tip.

Not sure why this post...you already ordered it with tip and there's no changing that...unless you just back out right? I think you are just creating your own internal pain and agony...oh yeah I would never buy a tip.

just remember that the power band is identical and the only thing different is how you access it. by using a foot clutch you have to disengage the engine.

if performance driving is your thing and you are looking for an edge on the track, disengaging the engine's power (for however long) is the last thing you want to do.

Does the tip allow you to stay in a specific gear in manual mode or does it force upshifts on you?

If Porsche use PDK on the 997TT next year, what's difference between using the thumbs to shift tip and other fingers on the shifting pedals?

Exactly, that's why Porsches race cars are all tips

When tip is in manual, it will not upshift for you automatically. It will automatically shift from 3rd to 2nd if you're coming to a stop though.

PDK is a true manual, no torque conversion. Engine is never disengaged allowing for faster shifts than you can possibly do manually using a foot clutch without any backoff or loss of power.

I haven't seen the PDK system but from what I understand it is a true paddle shifter control (similar to F430) where the left paddle upshifts and the right paddle downshifts. It is possible that there will be no shift **** in the center console either. Possible push button reverse.

Even in manual mode, the transmission will always upshift when you reach redline. As my salesman said, the tip transmission will not let you damage it. It will also not let you downshift into too low a gear for the given speed. The PSM has nothing to do with the tip shifts.
